    Hola chochachos,

Does anyone have an experience to share of buying gloves from Chester Jeffries UK? I sent them a tracing of my hand Thanksgiving turkey-style, the circumference of my hand at the knuckles, and $90; in return, with God's help, they'll send me a perfectly fitting pair of forest green capeskin gloves with rabbit fur lining.

Am I being too optimistic? Will the leather be good? Will the fur have fleas? What can go wrong?

Where have YOU had gloves made?

    Love,
    Adam

Too optimistic. It took me 3 tracings to get it right.

I do love Chester Jeffries. Their driving glove is wonderful.

What do you mean? The first two pairs were no good, so between each pair you sent them a new tracing? I'm conducting this all through the mail.

Corresponding with them has been a pleasure, though. They've been attentive, courteous, playful, and over email, they can't use their English accents to intimidate you.

Hm. I still feel inferior when I see words like "braces" and "waistcoat" or even just "whilst" instead of "while."

    Greetings, fellow Irvine-ite JamesX.

The first pair was very good, but I think I trace the fingers inconsistantly. So I redid the trace with more consistency in the way I held the pencil. That glove turned out better, but still had looseness on my left palm.

I ended up just photocopying my hand and send it to them. That ended up with a perfect pair. Now I have around 10 pairs of various gloves made by them.

Did they recharge you the bespoke fee for the new tracings? Xeroxing was a smart move.

What models do you have? I ordered the 'Paris'.

As someone who tried every single pair in a glove shop without success, I've to give it a try. Thanks for the tip! Feels a bit absurd thinking about gloves when the warmth just reached us though.. :)

Glad to help! And there are plenty of gloves you can wear when it's warm. The most elegant man I've ever blown once wore daffodil yellow, unlined kidskin gloves to a picnic. It was as close to spiritual as a fashion statement can get.

How is the leather? Ninety for custom gloves sounds pretty good if the leather is reasonable.

My Chester pair is holding up very well after a few years. For the price it's a good deal.

Dude, I know! I was blown away by their low prices. In fact, that $90 includes a one-time bespoke fee of around $30, so after your first pair, once they've filed your measurements, you'll pay around $60 for most of their styles.

I just couldn't resist commenting on the fact that you used "elegant" and "blown" in the same sentence. I'm also planning on getting some gloves from CJ. Photocopy is a good idea.

I own a pair of CJ "The Oxford" gloves in capeskin. Obscenely soft and buttery. Scent is intoxicating. Browns and lighter colors develop a lovely patina. But a bit delicate. I had the misfortune of getting shipping tape stuck to the right index finger and ripped off a bit of the top layer of the skin where the tape stuck.

I also have "The Custodian" with silk lining. The leather is somewhat unrefined and stiff but makes up in water repellant and durability.

God. I can't see this as anything other than sexual. The most elegant man you've ever *blown*?

Is that a term for fitting for gloves or something?
