Now you get it. It's our way to look old when young and young when old.

Oh, don't forget the patch pockets! Must have patch pockets.

You have made a very valid point ..We are too used to suits being pinned on mannequins or models posing for the camera.

Luckily , we have our own made SF pics to go back to sartorial reality.

I can see a lot of patch pockets around at the moment.

Is it a SF induced fad?

I like it but it looks a bit strange on such classic suit.

I have a trouser in VBC flannel is a very similar color to this. Thinking of getting a DB jacket made to match the trousers. I am undecided whether to go for patch pockets or flap pocket with ticket pocket.

Basically either this blue DB with patch pockets in grey flannel

or this DB with ticket pocket

As far as this suit goes, I'd be inclined to get hip patch pockets with a welt breast pocket and dark gray buttons. I think the patch pockets can be a unique look for business and perfect for more casual wear with slacks or jeans. Not sure if I would do 2 or 3 button. One day I want to get a mid-gray SB suit made up with similar details. Have fun and enjoy!

EDIT - Here's one from Parker that's along the lines of what I mean.

The cuffs look awful.

Update: order in, although it hasn't been cut yet. Thanks very much for the advice and discussion everyone. Going with flap pockets. Am leaning strongly toward a ticket pocket -- if people think that's ill-advised please let me know.

Agree with Manton that a vest is necessary. Anyone have an opinion whether this vest would look best with lapels or without for this suit? My tailor's personal preference is for SB lapels; I don't have a strong preference (this is my first 3-piece) but would be interested to hear others' thoughts. Thanks again for all the help!

I'm having my next suit made with three inch cuffs.

Reviving this long-dormant thread: I'm down to short strokes on this suit and I'm still hemming and hawing about whether the vest should have lapels. I found an old thread that debates the point in general but I'm curious if anyone has a thought one way or the other about their suitability for a conservative gray flannel suit specifically? They're my tailor's preference; otherwise it would have never occurred to me to get a vest with lapels at all.

If in any doubt, don't get lapels on the vest. It's a very particular look these days and will be noticed. Not to mention that I don't personally like the lapel on lapel action it creates but that's another matter.

They just don't work with jackets in winter. They may work with a sweater, but then, navy flannel trousers with a sweater? Odd look. I do think that blue odd trousers can be pulled off in summer though.
