I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for a bespoke dress shirt in NYC. I'm looking to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $300, but I'm only looking to buy one shirt. Any suggestions? I don't have any brands/tailors in mind, is there any one large men's store that has bespoke options for many designers?

Thanks,
runger

I like CEGO. Price points are a little under 300, but Carl has some good high end fabrics for that special shirt.

One shirt only? You may have trouble attracting the interest of a true bespoke maker.

Maybe MTM at some place like Oxxford?

anybody know anything about David Chu?

If I am forced to go MTM, where are some good places that I can look at a selection of MTM shirts? Does Turnbull and Asser do MTM? Would a big store like Bergdoorf Goodman have a good selection of MTM from different brands?

Also, what do you guys think about Thomas Pink, and their "personally pink" MTM service?

Thanks for your help, I'm pretty new into expensive dress shirts.

Cego will do one shirt for you. His prices are considerably below $300.

$300 is low-end for good bespoke, perhaps a bit much for rtw shirts.

Don't know about the 1 shirt thing. I believe CEGO's deal is 2 shirts with first purchase, then 4 with your next.

Right on re: prices - Carl's shirts run about $100-150 per shirt depending on fabric. He posts here as shirtmaven. You could PM him and see what he says. Or try www.cego.com.

In Philly, I get shirts made at Barton & Donaldson which is "high-end" for Philly (I think) and generally pay $215 - $250 depending on fabric.

Geneva starts at around $200 for very basic cloth and probably averages around $300 for better fabrics. I don't think they will make one shirt. The official minimum is six.

Could you elaborate on your experience with B&D and what sort of fabrics are available?

I am quite happy with my B&D shirts. I have 7 shirts from them and aside from 1 where the sleeves are a bit on the short side, I like them all. At this point, its unliklely that I would ever buy RTW. They do an especially good job with the collars - IMO.

The stated minimum order is 4 shirts - but I think they will allow 3 for repeat customers.

Not sure what I can tell you about the fabrics - there hundreds of options - but they are not labled as to country of origin or thread count. I have bought shirts at a number of price points and the fabric has always been very nice.

The guy who takes the orders is a bit strange and the shop smells a bit musty - but the shirts are fantastic.

I use Paris Custom Shirtmakers. Starting price is around 300 with a 3 shirt minimum for the first order. Very high quality. Have been very pleased with them.

I'm just 18 and am just starting to build my wardrobe, so buying 4 expensive shirts doesn't make much sense now. I'm not buying RTW because I'm 6'6'', 270 lbs and wear an 18,37.5. I think that it makes more sense for me to go with something like an Oxxford MTM shirt for $200-$250 than to go with a bespoke shirt. I have plenty of time to move into the bespoke market as my need for high end dress shirts increases. I'll stop by Bergdorf Goodman's before i go to Oxxford to check out if there's anything there for me. I'm new into all this stuff and am looking for a classic, wallstreet look.

Thanks.
