Bespoke Brioni Suit

Today I went to my family's friend, who is a local designer, to get measured for a suit.

He took out a Brioni catalogue so we could select a fabric for my suit.

We selected a fabric, and then he asked me a couple of questions (noth or peak, two button or double breasted, etc).

After he measured me, he said I was a 42 regular.

He has a tailor who works exclusively for him. But this suit will come already assembled and it will be modified by a tailor.

My question is: this is not bespoke... not even MTM. Did I waste my money? He gave me a good price and I trust him and his style. Since I needed the suit ASAP, I could not afford to wait for Mr. Chan to travel to the US. Maybe next time.

As with anything, a great deal will also depend on how much you were paying. For $1000 you can't expect bespoke service or product. At $4000, anything less than bespoke ought to get you a "Brioni" suit, not just fabric.

Wait, I'm confused. Is he a Brioni dealer, or did you just look through a Brioni catalogue as a reference? Are you getting a Brioni suit, or a suit based on a picture of a Brioni suit?

It is a special order stock size, not made-to-measure.
However, if you are a 42R in the model they ordered you and the tailor on premise can make minor adjustments (sleeves, trouser length) then it will be fine. Sometimes salespeople who are not an actual tailor will take too many measurements trying to impress the client about their "knowledge", then the garment comes in and it is an abortion, when if they would have just ordered a 42R there wouldn't be a problem.
If you friend's store is an established Brioni account, there should be no problems.

likely it's a mtm suit. Some factory makes it and the the local tailor finishes the sleeves and cuffs.

Yeah, sounds like MTO (Made To Order), which will then be altered by the local tailor. This is not necessarily a bad thing, if you are a standard size and know that OTR Brioni fits well, though you could almost get bespoke for what most Brioni suits would cost you (since it is MTO, I expect that he paid full retail price?) I also do not understand the use the word 'bespoke' in the thread title...
