Berluti - much cheaper in London than in Paris

The big swings in exchange rates this past year, especially between the euro and pound, have made Berluti's currency-converted prices in London much cheaper than in Paris. Here are two current examples:

Deux Jours briefcase: London £1190 vs. Paris €1700 (London 26% cheaper)
Andy loafers: London £690 vs. Paris €980 (London 25% cheaper)

In this economic climate, Berluti probably won't eliminate this gap. That would require either lowering the euro price (not something Berluti would do) or raising the pound price (bad idea in a deep luxury goods recession).

If you like Berluti, go to London, where full retail equates to a 25%-off sale.

The story is the same for all English shoes. Edward Green shoes are £550 in the London shop and €770 in Old England (the only Paris stockist). This works out at £720 at today's rates. Church's "Masterclass" or "Royal" editions are £395 at the website of Herring Shoes and around €640 in Paris stockists: This works out at £600 at today's rate.

You could get a cheap ticket on the Eurostar, go to London for the day, buy a pair of EGs and return to Paris that afternoon - and your shoes would still be cheaper than Old England's.
