You're probably right about that, though I still think that Bentleys, by way of the Continental GT/Flying Spur series, have become ubiquitous and common place enough that the whole brand has probably dropped a notch or two. A Flying Spur is in the budget of some well funded companies I guess, I see them as often as I do AMG S-classes or 760's with the full meal deal. I wouldn't look twice at any of those cars if I saw them on the street. I probably would stop and admire an Arnage, though.
I don't know if you would get shooed away from somewhere for pulling up in an S class or 7er either man. For what any of these cars cost, it's a club unto itself. Some S class and 7 series owners may not have the bankroll to run an Arnage, but even so, they'd be close.
You're right about the 3 series money thing, that was an exaggeration. $70-90K is 5 series money nowadays though, and this Arnage is pretty nice (it's a VW'ized revised version, so cosmetically and mechanically the same to what you would've bought this year as a new one)

I would skip the post RR Bentleys entirely, but that's just me. Not that it's going to be an issue anytime soon.

Yeah, I'll bet that where you live and in the other major world cities (Toronto is sort of a big small town in some ways) there are probably plenty of these cars tooling around. I do agree that if you show up in the larger AMG S class, you get the cred from those who know what it is. I'd be interested to know what you see these days that you feel is surpassing those ubiquitous lower-end Bentleys in terms of ultimate cred? Still Rolls-Royce? Do you see Maybachs (I've never actually seen one in the flesh)? First guy to show up in one of these will get the nod, even thought it's not quite my thing.

By the way, that '05 Arnage at $89.9K is a revelation (maybe get it for $85 if you ask nicely). I'm sure a lot of guys would consider that over a loaded up 5-series, but for me, at that price, it would be a newish M5 in a heartbeat.

The Mulsanne is the flagship and not lower-end. I've been resisting the urge to have one

Maybachs are gorgeous...from the back seat. A perfect chauffeur driven car IMO

Yeah sorry, I had just edited my post before you posted. I just searched for a Bentley FS on DuPont, saw that one at $185K recent and figured it was the lower end.

    Wait...you found a Mulsanne for $185k?

Edit: Nevermind. I'm guessing you mean you found a FS for that price. The Mulsanne is $300K-ish

if you pay someone to drive you, why are you concerned with being "ostentatious"?

Maybe I'd check both? Anyway, this whole subforum is a bunch of people asking whether to buy one product or another. Which they could do in each product's own specialist type of forums but no they come here because they're curious about our thoughts. Why do you take umbrage at that?

The Mulsanne is gorgeous. I see Flying Spurs in these parts often, so they no longer excite me, but I get giddy when I see a Mulsanne. Saw one last weekend while in Chicago.

my boss' wife has a continental GT..i think 05 or 06.. the CD player/Navigation CD player in it broke + a maintenance for the car...final bill was like $22k. its a lot to fix since there are limited places to service.

but 3k miles is practically new, so what the hell, go for it.
