My wife and I were given a 2005 Amon-Ra. I am told it's excellent. Tasting notes? I'm not yet convinced most Grange is worth it, especially with outstanding 2004 and 2005 growths of McLaren Vale.

I am not a Shiraz fan however my old Boss and a few other people think quite highly of the 'Bishop' as a reasonably priced drop.

Does even he take himself seriously? I do like he's the anti-Parker though.

I got rooked into watching 3 hours worth of his videos on drink eat or die, they just kept playing one after another.

Three hours!? I can watch two videos. In a month. He does do some interesting matchups, and like I said, he's the anti-Parker and I appreciate that.

Yes super wine. Even the 2004 is excellent.

But why aren't you convinced most Grange is not worth it? Just about every major critic internationally ranks it among the top 12 wines of the world, it holds (and far more usually exceeds) its investment value better than most wines; it ages as well as any 1st growth; and is arguably the most consistent great wine in the world (suffers the vagaries of vintage less than French/Italian.Spanish counterparts). So A$500 isn't worth it for this when you would be paying 2-3x more for Bdx 1sts, 3-10x for DRC / Leroy, 2-4x for d'Yquem or German TBAs? On an internatrional scale, it's an effing bargain, and the 04 coming ouyt next year one of the best ever (apparently)...

At the bottom end of the range, the Heartland Shiraz is delicious. Amon-Ra is a monster!

Thank you for the feeback. We're going to decant it next year. As for the Grange, I have been equally impressed with Mollydooker's Carnival of Love. Even their Two Left Feet is solid (yes, really). That said, I've only had two Granges.

Gemtree 2006 McLaren Vale Uncut Shiraz

Not an Oz fruitbomb. Balanced, flavour, finish. CDN$27.00. Bloody marvelous!
