So I've heard the rule of getting a belt a size up from your waist. I am naturally a 33.5" MAYBE 34" waist so I purchased a TLB Mallorca belt that was 36". The thing is with the belt is that being in between a size belts can be slightly too big or too small for me. These are the comparison.

4th loop

Center loop

The center is snug but wearable. Not as comfortable in say chinos or jeans because they hit my hip higher. Slightly below the waist is good for me since I'm a long legged guy.

Is it a bit of a faux pas to wear a belt on the 4th loop? Should it always be center? One of my other belts I got locally from Suitsupply they actually took a 38" and chopped it down which gave me about 3/4" more space. Thoughts?

It's ideal to be centered, but if you're off a hole it's ok. I might be concerned enough to modify or swap if you were on either of the extremes.

Yeah on my trousers the center one works just fine. I think for comfort sometimes I just like the belt to hit slightly below the waist depending on the pants.

Different rises can certainly cause enough difference to move a hole. I think you're ok

You might want to put the throng of your belt buckle through the belt keeper loop above the fly:

Try a ratchet belt

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
