It's been a while since I've been interested in anything Belstaff, but I can get behind this jacket, and some of the other jackets that look like they are made from a bonded cotton:

    Anyone else?

    I like that.

Definitely a change in direction this year. I wonder whether Barbour's resurgance was eating into their market?

Well, Labelux acquired the company in 2011, and also appointed Martin Cooper, who has a lot of outerwear experience (he was in charge of outerwear for Burberry for a long time), the new creative director. So, the change of ownership and the change of leadership probably has a lot to do with this.

For years before that, it seemed that they'd gone for the fashion market at the expense of their core market, but without really doing a great job either. They did get some strong celebrity endorsements (like Brad Pitt), but it seemed like the line really didn't have a strong direction. It seemed geared towards middle aged Yupsters, sort of like a high end Andrew Marc, which is probably not a comparison for which they were looking.

With this, and last seasons' FW campaign, it seems that it's really shooting to establish an baroque luxury image not unlike Burberry's, but more leathered up:

The range of leather (coats) they've had the last 6 months is amazing. Each time I've found myself in Florence, I've found a reason to stop by their boutique there and take one home. The leather in those coats is unlike anything I have seen anywhere else. The styling and design is also very well done.

Their boutique in Florence is still uttra-Eurotrashy douchey though. like a Ferrari shop. It's too bad, because the line is great, and the boutique, the last time I was there (January) just didn't jibe with the advertising campaigns.

True, but they carry a healthy inventory of the classic motorcycle jackets, which is really all I am into anyway..
