The bartender, the two or three other patrons and I endured this whining for about two minutes before the bartender took the easy way out.

He poured her a shot of Cynar.

She didn't look too pleased, but she shut up and drank it.

I've never had it, but I never wanted to, especially after that.

I miss, a post like, this.

Cynar, if I'm not mistaken, is artichoke-based. It gives the mouth a nice coca!ne tingly numbed feel. Like Fernet Branca, it is often (at least by Italians) consumed for its medicianl qualities. Good for tummy aches, hangovers, etc.

There's a place nearby that does a shot (a few choices) and a beer (any) for $9 IIRC, which when you get a Black Bush (Bushmills) shot and a Boddingtons to chase it with, is a pretty good value, and for some reason, can be nursed far longer than two separate drinks. Very tasty, too. Black Bush doesn't seem nearly as cloying as regular Bushmills.

Irish car bombs were a staple of my Friday nights for a while. It's like chocolate milk if you drink it fast enough (and you have to).

Shot and a beer to me means whiskey and cheap beer. Jameson and PBR. Jack and Natty Boh. Jim Beam and Bud. It helps if the bar serves beer in cans and just punches a hole in the top rather than opening the can for you.

What does the bartender use to punch a hole in the top?

I dunno. It was a short screwdriver-handled thing. It punched the normal opening open.

remember when all beer was opened like that?

I got a question... I like Jaegermeister as much as the next fraternity member, but increasingly I find it odd that Jaeger is considered a macho shooter. Take away the tough, vaguely metal name and the badass logo, and it's a slightly weak, sweet herbal liquor. Have you ever been scared of a jager shot the way you've been scared of, say, another shot of rye at 2:15 a.m.?

Jager isn't weak, just precisely regular strength. Definitely not a manly shot... a lot of shooters make me feel sick upon hitting my stomach, but I've happily downed double Jagers.

Still, it's a waste of good alcohol to shoot Jager. Jager + vodka + red bull + sours = win.

Come on now.

Miller Lite (in a can) and GM. Heaven.
