Beaters or boots?

Hi all

Long time reader, first time poster!

I've read many of the threads that discuss the pros and cons of beater shoes and am after some specific advice please.

Here in the UK, we enjoy less than idyllic weather, so I'm wondering what footwear would perhaps be best for those torrential days. It can be like wading, for days. I have a few calf shoes that I rotate and keep conditioned and polished. They're welted with stick-on rubber soles. I currently keep one pair reserved for bad weather days, but the rain can be so constant (especially in winter) that another or dedicated shoe/boot feels like a good idea, to give them a break between wears. A boot perhaps seems sensible for the really bad days also. Footwear would be worn with an outfit of a shirt with trousers or chinos.

The question is, would dedicated footwear for these wet days be wise? I've seen some brown Dr Martens Victor Chelsea boots at a good price - if they fit right, I wonder if they'd fit the bill? Or I could simply keep with the calf shoe rotation/buy another pair if I can find a good price, and keep on top of maintenance? Would welcome your thoughts.

Thanks

Another alternative is overshoes. I bought a pair last winter, but inclement weather is so rare here that I never got a chance to wear them.

Hi Thom

Sorry for the delay - thanks for your thoughts. Found some welted calf brogues with a Dainite-esque sole at a really good price so was rude not to! Thought the DM route would be a little severe. And although I’m always game for a sartorial conversation with colleagues, think overshoe-related persecution may break me! One day ... !
