What are you guys rocking for beaters?

I have a pair of AE cliftons and some mezlans for my brown beaters, and a pair of florsheim captoes for black.

    awaits the EG/JL/G&G responses

I do have a pair of EG beaters, but I also have a pair of AEs, a pair of suede Bass bucks and a pair of Banana Republic pebblegrain chukkas I found on clearance at Marshall's. So it spans the spectrum.

I have a pair of Paul Smith Starr wingtips that I use in the rain. They have been resoled three times and rewelted once. Technically they were re-midsoled since they are blake/rapid and don't have a "welt". I have had these for about 5 years now.

Wearing a pair of AE Kenwoods right now that I have had for 5 years now (including 4 years of college). They have held up remarkably well and I like their patina so much they are on about their 10th resole. Though they are an extreme example.

I have a pair of Top Siders that are my ultimate beaters. A pair of Eastland chukkas that look like I have worn into battle. And a pair of Ferragamo oxfords that are a solid option with worn-in jeans.

I'll get back to you in 10 years when I respond to comments about my G&G's with "Oh, these old things?"

Yeah man. Needless to say my college days were pre-SF or before really any notion of how to properly take care of clothes and shoes. I was wearing them all day (walking about five miles to and from class and generally around town, then to the bars at night for a couple additional miles). And I was wearing them more or less everyday. Thought I was hot shit for having AEs. Funny thing is that treating them like shit has made me like them as much as I do now. They have a lot of really cool wear to them and they have garnered a lot of comments.

Haha of all the things I thought I'd post to SF, these did not make the list. I'll see if I can throw them up after work.

I have a pair of Ferragamo bit loafer 'brown travelling shoes' that are upwards of 15 years old. Have been around the world MANY times and seen a lot of 'front line action' on various construction site inspections. They've been through the streets of New Delhi to the backwater towns around Yellow Mountain in China and nearly everywhere in between.

They've had a few resoles along the way - I don't really know how many.

But the uppers barely even show a crease!

Frankly I'm so sick of looking at them that I wish they would just implode upon themselves!

Fortunately my similar Cole Haan 'black travelling shoes' have finally fallen apart and I've recently sent them to the great shoe store in the sky.

Do THAT with your AE's :slapfight:

    :D

Hahaha. Impressive Gdot, though I think I have waded around in Buckhead bars that rival your terrain (not in experience but wear, obviously).

I contemplated retiring them a year or so ago. But then on a trip to Chicago about a week after thinking that I had an extremely well dressed friend of a friend tell me they were so cool and that he hoped his dad would hand him down shoes that cool one day too (implying they looked worn-in enough to last multiple generations). While that might make a lot of people on this site drop a match to them immediately, I thought it was cool that they were garnering compliments for a completely different reason than why I bought them.

Oh! Bar shooes! That's a totally different topic all together.

Those I will never talk about and those you will never see!

So does it make me an alcoholic because my bar shoes are also my beater shoes? Or is it just my name? :D

I have two pairs of Crockett & Jones handgrades I use as beaters. A cordovan chukka that is simply indestructible and a calf chelsea.

For all you people out there who hate mink oil - these shoes have never seen any care other than Kiwi Mink Oil and Meltonion Shoe Cream.
