Be honest, do you have trouble getting a central tie dimple?

I have no trouble getting a dimple with a quality tie. Lately I've been more interested in the no-dimple look, now THAT I have trouble with.

For some reason I use to not have a problem with this but lately I've always had to retie my tie a couple of times to get a good dimple.

I usually can nail it with the half-windsor. But the Windsor and four-in-hand are elusive.

Before tightening, hold the tie with your middle finger and thumb and use your index finger to press down the middle. With this grip, tighten the tie. It works every time for me. Holding the dimple in place before tightening it is the way for me.

+1 I use basically the same method.

My ties almost always knot with a dimple, although almost never in the middle. I guess it's just the way I tie them, I never gave it too much thought really.

Yeah my dimples are rarely in the middle. More sprezzatura that way.

No. Because once I achieve the perfectly centered dimple with each tie, I just loosen it, remove it over my head, and store it tied like that, for future re-use (i.e., and just put it on over my head when I need it again)

I agree -- when I use a Pratt/Shelby knot virtually all of my ties seem to "dimple" themselves automatically.

No. On very rare occasion, the first try will miss.

Never. But then I was taught by Sir Leopold Sartori, of blessed memory

Spoo always seems to nail it every time.

Some ties do it themselves, some require you to force it in. Sometimes I don't like it at all as a big long dimple can look douchey if you ask me.

I find cashmere ties and thicker silks to dimple the easiest. Thin ties are a bear.
