I am currently in law school and OCI is coming up. I have got this far with an H&M and a Hugo Boss suit, both purchased for under $200. I'd like to buy one of Brooks's 1818 Milanos but not sure which is best. I love the plaid, but am thinking that even with a white shirt and repp tie that may look inappropriate. Is the herringbone the next best bet?

The other option is MTM, but I'm a pretty generic size (180, 6'1), and I'm thinking I can get a better value OTR by waiting for a sale.

Here are the different styles: http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatS...ection_Id=1067.

Thanks so much.

Get a solid navy or charcoal worsted wool Fitzgerald. The Milano is not a very conservative cut, and if you're low on total suit numbers and entering the legal field, veering conservative is a good idea.

Going to call bullshit on this. If the Milano fits the OP better, then he should wear the Milano. While he doesn't want it to fit like it came from Prada's runway show, there's nothing wrong with a suit that's appropriately fitted for an interview, even in a conservative environment. And I agree on going solid, but seeing as it's spring, I'd stay away from flannel unless you want to roast (especially if you'll be using this suit for the job over the summer). They're also nearly sold out of that one. I think the stripe on the "fine stripe" one is subtle enough for an interview and that's the route I'd go if you like that suit. The herringbone looks a bit light in color and also like it might be a bit too shiny for this. If budget isn't so much an issue, go to Ralph Lauren and try their Black Label suits. The solids are about $1,600 but you can get some discount if you buy at a dept. store and open a charge account. These are cut slim but the fabrics and detailing are conservative and they are a great year-round weight. This one might fit the bill: http://www1.yoox.com/item/YOOX/RALPH...C/sts/sr_men80 The fabric content seems odd and I'm wondering if it's a mistake, as I've never seen a RLBL with any stretch material or other synthetic fibers. Yoox has a good return policy so I'd try it in the 40 if you like the suit and it's within budget.

Could you provide more details on what departments stores carry the RLBL Anthony and allow a discount with opening a charge account?

Barney's, Saks and Bloomingdale's all offer a discount for opening an account, usually 10-15% on the first day's purchases. All Barney's (besides Coop-only stores), most Saks and four Bloomingdale's stores sell RLBL. Bloomingdale's includes RLBL staples on their sales more often than the other two, who typically never include the staples and only have sales twice yearly.

+1 on the idea that a well-fitted suit is conservative business dress. I doubt that any BB suit is going to look so painted on that OP will get laughed out of an interview.

Which is a slimmer cut...the Milano or the RL Black Label?

Both look fine to me for a job interview.

All folks here, including me are suggesting solid color for interview. Navy is preferable, Darker Grey is acceptable. Charcoal = borderline, Mid Grey = borderline, any other color = forgedaboudit.

Charcoal borderline? Maybe it's different for legal interviews, but I feel like Charcoal is just as acceptable as navy for interviews. Isn't charcoal the same as dark grey?
