BB Golden Fleece Functional buttons?

So, I purchased a Golden Fleece suit on sale on line and then brought it into the King of Prussia BB to get taken in and the buttons finished.

Since it was made with unfinished cuff buttons, I mistakenly assumed that the taylor would sew them in as functional--or at least ask me what I wanted. I did not think of requesting it at the time. By the way, their in-house taylor is very gruff and not a pleasure to deal with.

When I came to pick it up, uf course the buttons were not functional. I brought this up to the taylor and he huffed and puffed. He at first said that I never requested functional buttons (true) and that it would cost an additional $97. I said that was fine. He then told me (without re-examining the suit) that he had adjusted the sleeves and cut out too much material to make the buttons functioal.

At this point, I'm under the impression that he does not want to do it and he just wante me to get out of the store. I did not to push it as who wants a pissed of taylor messing up your new suit?

Anyway, my question is this, is it worth it to bring it to my taylor to get functional buttons or should I try another BB with better customer service?

Should I just forget the functional buttons?

Functional buttons are a novelty.

I would not have assumed that my tailor would do $100 of work without asking me.

I don't see why you couldn't ask another tailor"”that much is free. But don't get your hopes up.

The unfinished cuff buttons are NOT there for a tailor to make into functional......they are there to get the sleeve length correct when tailored. You would have needed to ask.

Functional sleeve buttons are done on request and at a substantial cost. Usually, IME, if they are not made functional in the beginning, then it can't be done later, at least that's what I've been told.

not true at all.

There is always a way to make sleeves functional, just depend on the creativity of the tailor. Most are just lazy and would not like to take on the work.

Excuses like not enough sleeve material is thrown around often. How about two functional and the rest none?

Worth it in what way? It probably can be done, but the $100 cost is pretty close to what you'll pay anywhere.

Also, is "taylor" a legitimate alternate spelling of tailor? I've never seen it that way before.

No, he's just spelling it wrong. But apparently Taylor is a Scottish/English name meaning "tailor", so if his tailor's name is Taylor, it would be appropriate.

I have no doubt you're right about this. I've had many tailors over the years, especially in department stores, say that something can't be done when in fact it could, but they just didn't want to do it.

Sorry guys. Spelling mistakes are what happens when you post after midnight with a few drinks in you. At least I was consistent.

I guess I will just leave it the way it is. I like the way the jacket fits and I’m happy with it. I guess it is fine. Next time I will make sure to specify before.
