I have been priming myself for a couple pairs of new shoes, and have pretty much pinned one pair down to either AE Strands or Fifth Avenues in walnut. Although, I really wanted a partial rubber overlay, as I'm a little hard on front of sole, walking around the rough streets of ST. Augustine, Fl.. Just received the latest BB catalog and see they have added some newbe's that includes matches for Strands and Fifth Avenues, only they have partial rubber sole inlays. Made a call to the salesman at The BB I go to, and yes, they are AE's, and due in shortly.

But the thought occured to me, what about recrafting, as in mainly soles and heels ( to protect my investment ). So, a call to AE. Got ahold of someone involved in the BB deal. AE only recrafts their brand, and shoes they make for other brands, if they have a recrafting deal with the other brands. Although BB is having AE make shoes to their spec., they have held off ( at this point ) in making a recrafting deal with AE. Since it is AE's position that, once they make shoes for another brand, it's their shoes and they need the recrafting deal made.

The conundrum at his point, I like the BB version of the AE's, but not so much, without AE recrafting. Time to make a call or e-mail to urge BB to make a recrafting deal, to make buying their shoes a better purchase option. Anyone else who might be interested in the BB version of the AE shoes, lets do an e-mail campaign.

Roger. Saw the catalog yesterday, too. I think that the rubber part of the BB AE shoes are stitched down. When you go to get them recrafted AT YOUR COBBLER, I believe that he'll have to stitch them again. Kinda destroys the logic of the rubber half soles which I get replaced at the same time as my rubber heels. I'd stick with buying directly from AE at this juncture.

UPDATE

Called BB, and after talking to a couple ladies, got transfered to a products specialist, Jesica. She informed me that the subject has come up at meetings. I also mentioned that if one needs to return shoes to store to have sent off, it was a wonderfull opportunity for impulse buying, as men start breathing heavy when they walk into store. She said she would mention my call at next meeting. and get back to me.
