1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Some parts are so cool. But then you have scenes like firing from the walkway. Even if the other parts are grossly unrealistic that walkway scene is the worst. Guy would be dead in a few seconds after firing from up there.

Well that is true, but just look at the atmosphere they are building up. If you were playing this, in the heat of battle, you would never ever complain about stuff like this ! You would be lost in the awesomeness of the gameplay [IMG]

True. I have to say that watching in HD got my heart racing and I did find all the killing rather worrying.

Does this game offer anything new, beyond the admittedly beautiful graphics?

Well, it's a FPS. What do you want that could be "new" besides better graphics and DICE working towards getting the overall feel just right?

It's sound like the pinnacle of the tactical shooter. There's suppressing fire, large maps, the ability to vault over objects, multiple objectives that leapfrog each other...

It was there before COD, and it will be there after COD.

    64 players
    Huge maps
    Vehicles (land, air, sea)
    More team-based play
Less arcadey and XP/killstreak grounded than COD

Those are pretty much the core 5 points in all BF games, but BF3 is adding a shitload more. It looks impressive.

Already pre-ordered. Cannot wait to see what this looks like on the new TV. I bought battlefield 2 recently and prefer it over COD. COD is too arcade-ish and too easy to get kills.

Their marketing machine is really working then. I'm not interested myself, but I was skeptical that EA would be able to drum up enough hype to actually put a dent into COD's sales. Looks like it'll be a real battle!

^^ not to mention the gay ass "elite" scam Activision is trying to pull and the fact BF3 releases 2 weeks before COD , BF3 has a HUGE chance of denting COD's Reign as top FPS.

The CoD series is burying themselves, and I believe that BF3 will come along and just put the final nail into the coffin that has been open for too long now.

I dunno we will see. I think activision thinking is old and they have made so much money they lost track of the things that really matter.

Did anybody ever play the Project Reality mod for BF2?

I downloaded it because I tired of all the children refusing to actually engage in teamwork in the original game online, which was supposed to be a major selling point. Found myself playing with a slightly older crowd, slightly more patient and serious, tolerant of a lack of HUD, crosshairs, and all that other rubbish. Some of my happiest times in gaming have been spent under competent commanders a) repelling terrorist attacks in an arsecrack of Aghan-desert-nowhere with a group of sour English squaddies, some tooled up Land Rovers, and a load of firebases and b) garrisoning abandoned buildings while in retreat with Russian comrades, as we await the inevitable arrival of overwhelming enemy firepower and fight a desperate battle to the last man. It was like a totally different game.
