    Hey SF Community,

We created Batch to change the direction of Menswear. The reality is, the work environment is changing rapidly; freelancers, the satellite workforce, and the start-up culture are molding a new landscape. Men’s style currently does not speak to who we are as creatives, entrepreneurs, and free thinkers. We have been dressing in clothing that did not match our ideals or the commonality of our beliefs. We are setting out on a journey to address the needs of this new man, to give him a voice and identity.

We have the talents to bring this product to the market. Our founders are two best friends who are graduates from Parsons School of Fashion, Art, and Design. After 15 years of working in corporate fashion, Batch was started in the Spring of 2015. Our goal is to become a shirt destination and expand into a lifestyle brand.

Batch style is for the modern man, we turned shirt sizing upside down and refreshed classic styling. We care deeply about design and refinement. Our iconic collar detail is designed to be worn tie-less, communicating how we believe the needs of men’s fashion has changed. This detail is a lighthouse for the like-minded. It is a secret handshake for the new regime.

We believe Menswear is on the edge of exciting times. There is a changing of the guard upon us. Men’s style is evolving faster than ever before, and we are elated to be a part of it. We would love to hear how you think and join the Batch journey.

Stop by www.batchshirts.com to become a Batch Insider and get access to very limited edition shirts before anyone else. We will also be creating special access just for the SF community.

Tom and I are excited for this journey ahead. Let us know your thoughts on the direction of our company. Feel free to email us directly at (our first names at batchshirts.com). We are thrilled to be part of the tastemaker community of Style Forum!

    Thanks,

Thanks for the welcome. We are excited to be here. Great suggestion, we love imagery.

Here is our iconic collar detail. This detail is designed to not need a tie. The contrast brings the attention to your outfit and pairs back to your jacket or accessories. Many men are able to dress business casual year round, our Essentials shirts are perfect for them.

The collar detail also acts as a secret handshake for men with similar sensibilities. We believe Batch is for men who don't accept average. Wearing a Batch shirt sets you apart and also joins you to a community.

We will add photos to explain more about Batch throughout the week.

What do you think of this Collection shirt? In this line we either mix patterns or colors to create a subtle but visually dynamic shirt. This shirt is based on a quite crazy mix pattern shirt that I purchased years ago as a bold move. To this day I get more compliments and requests of where to buy it than any other off the rack shirt I own. . . well until we created the Collection.

We are usually refined but some times it is best to take the bold stance on the day. Throw caution out the window and embrace being alive, taking risks.

    Hey SF community,

We are launching ties today! We have been thinking over what ties mean to Batch since we started designing shirts.

I have made samples for numerous shirt start -ups over the years.
I am not trying to be a dick.. just my honest opinion.
the iconic collar seam is the type of detail for the sake of a detail.
    "what can we do different"
I think it will turn off more customers then attract customers on this site.

not edgy enough for the street wear and denim crowd.

a little too quirky (not in a good way) for classic menswear.

I see it for a sort of Frat boy, who wants to look cool in his new shirt, but not so odd that he will be made fun of.
Our iconic collar detail is a beacon for the like minded.

Batch represents local, artisanal, and crafted design with a sharp attention to detail.
artisanal? how can a shirt made in a large factory be Artisanal? BTW. where are your shirts produced?

personally, i dislike a square button cuff.

your fit is very limited, which is fine. but 3 sizes?
There are a lot of skus. you have limited production to keep costs down. which is smart.
you have one collar style which works for both button down and non button down.
I am assuming you vary the fusing for the two models.
does the non button down collar have stays?

your website looks good and is easy to navigate.

    good luck

    Hi Carl,

Thank you so much for the honest comments, I have been in the industry for long enough to have a pretty thick skin. And also to know constructive criticism from simple dislike. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at what we make objectively.

I would love to give our thoughts on some of your below points:
Our Iconic collar seam is simply our logo, identity, a way to tell that it is a Batch shirt. We have gone back an forth on the way that we highlight or don't and you will see a mixture of both contrast and pulling back to the subtlety of just a seam. In future styles it will move to just being a top stitch in some cases. I agree it can be seen as a detail for detail sake, we equate that to an embroidery of a polo player on your chest. Our logo meaning is simply different. Other than being our only branding feature on the shirt we use it to be a subtle attention draw towards the face. Similar to why women wear necklaces (smart and subtle). For men who do not wear ties it adds just a hint of color/interest without being too much.

I totally agree that we are straddling the classic menswear and streetwear crowd. That is exactly where we would like to be. Thank you for recognizing.
Classic menswear is not for us as we are both from creative backgrounds. And streetwear is too casual and just not our style. We believe right in between is an underserved segment, guys who want to look amazing for business and pleasure, serious and professional. Yet do not need the tie or suit on a regular basis. We are working on what this segment is, american sportswear seems like the right fit but guys do not relate to that. Bridge in women's terms.

Our shirts are produced in India. I believe they are artisanal as we work with a factory with only 6 tailors, each shirt is meticulously created one at a time. Each seam is created with the care and attention that normally is relegated to the finest suit or custom shirt. If the bobbin runs out of thread mid seam we rip the whole seam out and re-sew. Our buttons are individually hand sewn. It is not perfect, they are not stamped out of an assembly line, we have tolerances and make mistakes. It is endlessly frustrating, and wholly rewarding. By the looks of what you do I am sure you might agree.

Our fit is very limited at this moment as we grow. It is just not smart for us to make 10 different sizes of a shirt that might be loved or hated. Perhaps we annoy some other size people while we develop our brand. I believe in the long run it is better for us to find our stride first and then focus on serving more people.

We are in the middle of developing a larger selection of collar shapes and details. We really focused on nailing the fit first for the brand as that makes or breaks a shirt. Now that our customers love our fit we are taking a deep dive into our shirt styles and selection. Your comments come at a perfect time in our brand. I really appreciate every question and remark you have given.

You will see a very different Batch shirt hit the store very soon. It is our thoughts on the utility shirt. Again it is not street wear, nor classic. But we think it perfectly addresses guys needs for this evolving world. I would love to hear your thoughts when they are live. Again, thank you for taking your time to question what we do, keep them coming, it is what will make us better. We are shooting for world class. So we need a lot more of where that came from.

    Warmest,
    Geoff

    Good luck
    I have a workroom of 6 people
I would never use the word Artisanal. It is just as useless as the word Bespoke.

I am not saying they do not take pride or care.
I have seen great work out of India. and fabric from the right mills in India are excellent.

    Hi Carl,

Yeah totally understand the artisanal comment, and bespoke and couture for that point in this day and age. But it is a feeling, is there such a thing as artisan beer? What size is a micro brewery? But artisanal is a emotional word and a feeling, perhaps you and I need to come up with a new definition for small scale, not mass produced throw away clothing. You and I are not making this and it is important for the customer to understand and see the difference.

The challenge is Batch does not have a store front, we sell exclusively online, so guys can not touch or try on our shirts, they can not feel the quality or inspect our stitching. We can only start the story and guys need to explore the rest for themselves.

It is the challenge of a lifetime. And becomes more fascinating every day.

You are so right about India, we have not even scratched the surface of the capabilities. That is the next 20 years of Batch. Our "lived in" shirts are cold pigment dye, it is hard to get this technique done in many other parts of the world due to the variation in dye. The effect is subtle yet stunning in a well made shirt.

    Hey SF,

Here is one of our best selling shirts that we are almost sold out of in all three colors. The dot is just a little larger then a traditional poke a dot. The ground of the fabric is dyed so the rich colors show solid when you roll your sleeves up. Let us know what you think of dots?

Thank you SF members for an amazing Luxtility launch! The response has been overwhelming. We were fortunate to have been featured on Gear Patrol shortly after the launch. Due to this we had almost no stock left. For those of you that did not get a chance to check them out, we are thrilled to announce we just restocked – this time adding size XL to the mix as well as a refined selection of patterns.

Really like the shape of the luxtility shirts. Any plans on mixing the colors and the designs? For example an Emissary in Forest green or black?

Some of these shirts appear to be designed for untucked wearing. The length of these shirts should be listed in the size chart.

Hey @Luis50 thanks for the suggestion. Here is a rundown of our lengths all based on a size medium. Our utility shirts are 30" which we found is the perfect length for wearing them untucked. Our banded collar shirts are 29" and our Essentials line of dress shirts meant for being tucked in are 31". Please let us know if you have any other questions.
