Basic newbie question. Can you alter a suit from a L to R?

A Hickey Freeman jacket that I had my eyes on is on super sale, but only a "L" is available on my size. Wondering if it is easy to alter it down to a "R". I am 5 10.5 tall.

Thanks

Short answer: no

Longer: shortening the jacket and the sleeves are no problem but without major and expensive work from somebody who knows what they're doing, you can't move the pockets and the buttons. So shortening might give you a jacket with buttons and pockets too close to the hem, and too far down your body. Current trends are to have buttons relatively high so it's possible this would end up working out. But you'd have something different than what the maker intended. AFAIK HF is a fairly traditional brand, so I wouldn't count on them producing a "trendy" jacket.
