Baseball field/park/stadium etiquette?

I agree completely. There's a context to everything. Bringing a kid to the student section at a college football game would just be idiotic. Dude, when I think back on the things I called the referees at Georgia games... There were a few times where I'm pretty sure I actually invented new cusses..

The worst behaved people I've ever seen in the student section were never students. One guy actually had his whole family there, and they looked like they wanted to die from embarrassment. The guy was calling the refs "f'ing cocksuckers" on every...single...play, regardless of what happened (this was the Bama game a couple years ago where they were up like 31-0 after the first half). It got to the point where people in the crowd were making fun of him, and he started trying to fight random people in the crowd. He ended up getting kicked out.

Had two other interesting incidents: One at the Ok State game. Guy kept yelling sexually charged comments to UGA females, got security called on him and was thrown out. The other guy kept saying "Run little (negro) boy run!" until some people in the crowd told him to shut up, and he actually did. Looked kind of ashamed too, was rather amazing.

Like I stated above, it's not going to ruin your experience if you avoid letting loose streams of obscenities when something doesn't go your team's way, but it may well do so for the guy who brought his kid to see the game. That being the case, it seems to me that it would be the right thing to do to try to clean it up a bit. I will never understand why people can't resolve to treat other people with respect, rather than falling back on "herp, derp, dude, I can say whatever I want. Other people's kids aren't my problem."

I use profanity in my every day language. I'm not going to change how I speak just to appease some unreasonable asshole that gets all bent out of shape about the words I use.

at wriggley field there seems to be a lot of security. I was at a game last year when somebody was yelling at somebody else, and then he seemed to calm down very quickly when a security guy came up. I think that ball parks are for families, and I think that kids shouldn't have to hear foul language yelled repeatedly. I think that if I was in that situation I would ask the offender to use cleaner language, and then try to leverage secuirty.

Excessive and loud use of profanity is not tolerated in Lucas Oil Stadium for Indianapolis Colts games. I've seen security escort guys out more times than a few.

Oh man, that Bama game was just...well...even after a few years, I still can't find the words. I'm quite certain a found more than a few during the game, however.

[brag]I watched the OSU game with Mike Adams, Damon Evans, and other selected Athens/UGA VIPs sitting next to me. Suffice it to say, there was no profanity, but I did witness a fair bit of nauseating schmoozing.[/brag]

Seriously though, I have a theory that you can detect sidewalk alumni by watching people's behavior at a game. The worse the behavior, the more likely it is that the fan in question has recently left his shotgun shack in Oglethorpe County to come to the "big city to see them Dawgs play."

The point, you are missing it.

In my experience, most stadiums have a policy on language, behavior, and intoxication.

^^but they do seem to run extra noise though their speakers whenever the opponent is on offense though right?

i grew up going to late 80's-early 90's paw sox, bruins, celtics, patriot, red sox games... and two vinny pazienza fights... my dad kind of sat me down (as a kid from 8-11yo) and explained there's going to be lots of drunk racists swearing and yelling loud.... kind of like watching a rated R movie on HBO...

it goes with the territory... just like having kids behave in church or at a broadway play... they should be prepped for the opposite in large sporting events... if they were taught whats right and wrong decorum wise they'll be fine at it will be an exhilarating/scary/fun experience... if its too scary then they can always say so and you can go to the concession stands or for a walk around the stadium.

its a lot easier these days, especially at fenway (that place calmed way down and people are afraid of wasting their money being kicked out), yankee stadium still has guys willing to waste their money and go overboard though...

in US stadiums its also a lot easier just to rat out the offending party to security... just get up or ask your wife to go and complain to a security guard... they are usually on top of things like that and thankful to be tipped before anything escalates...

Yeah, we tend to "ramp" it up at the most opportune times, the team spirit that is. :tounge:

This is what usually happens at the games I've attended, and it's not always done surreptitiously.
