Barney's Seattle on the move

In addition to Neiman Marcus opening an anchor department store in Bellevue, Barney's is expanding/moving to the Pottery Barn location in Pacific Place to meet the demand of a growing high-end retail market in Seattle. Is our reputation for flannel shirts, cut-offs over long underwear and combat boots waning? Deliver us from L.L. Bean...

Holy crap, thats some news!

I didn't know about the Bellevue NM either. This will pay HUGE dividends in about 5-10 years on the thrift store circuit.

Has there been an announced ETA on Barney's move to the Pacific Place building yet? I keep hearing about it, but not yet any dates.

I don't enjoy their current spot and store layout, so I'm looking forward to it.

I will pose the question over at SSC but a quick search did not turn up an exact date. I don't like the current layout either, I hope the new one will be closer in selection and variety to Mario's but larger. Even though it is in Bellevue, I am equally excited about the new Neiman Marcus, which will open in late '07 or early '08. It is planned to be huge! There is also speculation in a few local urban planning commissions that some national department stores will not survive the combined allure of Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Such a shift could be very bad for the Seattle metropolitan Macy's stores, especially if Nordstrom adapts to market dynamics accordingly.

Good on Barney's, that store was pretty cramped. Things are looking up for fashion in Seattle.

It has been a very long while since I was in Barney's in Seattle. Is it still on 5th Avenue?

Cry me a river.

And yes, Barneys is still on 5th Ave. I completely avoid it durning the busy times of the day just because of the small space. On the positive side however, I've always enjoyed the service I've recieved there, even from their younger staff members. I hope that doesn't degrade once they move to the more prominent spot.

As the previous poster said, yeah, they're still in that tiny space on 5th. It's unfortunate, since the amount of rackspace they have is miniscule, especially considering they take half of it up for Co-op and jeans.

Now all we need is Butch Blum to get serious about selling their clothes*.

*Seriously, their ad stylings, offerings, and demographics are all wonky.

I agree, Macy's has never had a place in Seattle or SouthCenter/SeaTac/Alderwood/Tacoma/Whereverelse. I hope the poor selection of RL & RLBL they display will be expanded upon by which ever store usurps their place in the market.

I would also like to see Butch Blum become more accessible. I am lucky to be able to afford to shop there but if they included a few more price points in there market they could easily shut out David Lawrence, Nuvo Moda, Kuhlmann or the other competitors. Now that I think about it...Seattle has a ton of options for menswear. Oslo's, Scott Kuhlman, Blackbird, Barneys, Mario's, Butch Blum, Nordstrom, Le Frock, Nuvo Moda, Isabella's, Franco's(Tacoma)...

lucky us.

Looking forward much more to the new NM than the expanded Barney's. Personally, Barney's sales staff always annoys me.
