Barker Black Spectators. comments please.

i got these on clearance form saks for under $200 (orig. 825) with tax. comments please. i know its hard with the rough phone pics but im between cameras now. how did i do?

If you like them, that's what matters. they are nice shoes. barker black is known for good quality, albeit a bit on the fringe style wise for most people here, but these spectators look like your normal pair with subtle bb elements, which is great. I like some of their styles, and would readily buy a pair or four if I can get them for around $200. Less than that, even better.

If you pull them out a few times a year and have fun with them, it was totally worth it.


Some guys who wear spectators over do it because along with them they also wear a few other bold items (catchy tie, bold PS, fancy colored socks, etc) and the look becomes too busy and costumy IMO. I really like it when wore with a number of elegant subtle garments allowing the shoes to be the accent to the overall look. These would be nice with a solid linen suit, white shirt and subtle tie, for example.

Hi,

I really loved Barker Black when it was new and fresh. The ethos of the best materials and the best English welted shoes possible had me sold.

Sadly they have decided to have all their uppers cut and closed in India! I know they are owned by an Indian company but I think they should stay true to their original ideals.

I would love a pair of these, but can't justify it until the white bucks that I picked up in college die. Considering that they get about 10 wearings a year I have a feeling that's a long ways away.

While we're on the topic, what's the ruling on patent black/white spectators with a dinner jacket? I know I've seen it done, but not sure if it was allowed under iGent rules....

If you were looking for specs, and they fit right, it's an awesome deal.

I can't think of any decent spectators available for around $200.

Very nice. Personally I think a cap toe on a spectator is more harminious, but these are fine examples.
