Punched oxford vs wholecut...

I know a few people with the Alderney and I've got to say it's a mixed response. One friend was quite un-impressed with the leather quality on the Alderney given it's relatively high price compared with other Barkers. I actually consider the leather & construction on the Alderney to be of a high quality, a little better than C&J Benchgrade.

But your alternative in the form of the Tricker's is difficult for the Alderney to beat. Tricker's are extremely well made, excellent leather, solidly built and IMHO underrated.

The only other consideration aforementioned in my opening statement is the different types of shoe.
I actually consider a well fitting wholecut to be the epitome of style and taste. It's subjective of course, but if I had the choice I'd go for the Alderney, probably in Acorn.

In Acorn??? ... You mean Tricker's, not Alderney.
Thanks for this information!

The Alderney is available albeit scarcely in Acorn. The color is actually a tastefully finished patina of Acajou, antique pine with shades of olive! Don't ask me how but it seems to work and I know from the Barker shop on Jermyn St that it has outsold the other color offerings two seasons running.

You might want to read what I wrote...properly this time.

Actually I did. But I guess you did use the 'it' in a way that makes the sentence meaning somewhat ambiguous.

'Don't ask me how but it seems to work and I know from the Barker shop on Jermyn St that it has outsold the other color offerings two seasons running.'

When you use 'it' this way, 'it' usually refers to the object immediately preceding 'it'. Hence, I assumed that Barker on Jermyn St outsold the other colors that the Alderney came in.

Not that we should be extremely stylistic in the way we post on this forum, but I just wanted to clarify the way that this could be interpreted. =)
