As my overall favorite artist, I have much appreciation for Neil Young's sometimes country, folksy, and later more unconventional dress attire. I am not even saying that I necessarily think he is a very stylish dresser, but it is something I greatly appreciate none the less. First is roughly from 1968, from his Sugar Mountain live recording,

Second one, on the right, is from 1971, from his Massey Hall live recording, Third is from his 1975 album "Tonight's the Night",

He has been dressing a little more oddly in his older years, but I picked these three out because they are pretty representative of what he wore throughout the late 1960's up to the end of the 1970's and beyond. It is also worth noting that much of what he wore and wrote about during the 1970's(which was essentially the height of his popularity) helped set the basis for the Grunge movement that would be established decades later.

and now it's 'post pictures of dozens of bands at random in an attempt at validation' thread

EDIT: damnit kunk blocked.

I actually thought of Ogre when I first read this thread and thought of kunk's style.

Just read your response talking about andre 3000 in a previous post.. didnt even read that before putting my 2 cents up. Hope you don't think I'm trying an attempt at 'validation' or riding your sack when i put my post up haha. But yeah i was surprised nobody mentioned andre 3000. First guy i thought of when i thought of stylish artists and my personal taste for hiphop.

You also forgot the "don't even bother to list band names because if you're not cool and pretentious enough to know them by image".

On the same note, whose the girl in the last picture?

What you can't discern name drop worthy post punk bands on sight? NME magazine editors everywhere look down on you in disgust. On the brightside, Pitchfork editors can't even NAME bands existing prior to 1997 so you aren't alone. I especially like the addition of My Bloody Valentine who essentially looked like they shared the same 14 items of disgusting frumpy thrift store clothing for their entire career. No Irish band has ever deserved mention in the same sentence as the word 'fashionable'

I'm not sure if I'd agree with your entire list but I'm glad you posted that one. Tom Waits would definitely be one of my top choices (and one of my favorite artists too). Some more Waits,

Down By Law.

Oddly enough the piture is housed on a photobucket called baron munchausen. The adventures of Baron Munchusen was directed by Terry Gilliam...who directed Waits in The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus
