Band t-shirts - Can they be worn with style?

Never had any band t shirts.

However, once upon a time my younger brother (on the left) and I had some TV show (Space Patrol) t shirts.

The pole in the picture is one end of our Grandmother's clothes line.

I think many of these are fine, but his one really doesn't work mainly because the T-shirt is blue and it has this 'too close but not close enough feeling' with the navy blue suit. Plus the suit is way too much of a formal conventional business suit, and the shoes don't do anything to break that impression.
