There are hits... there are misses... and then there are... HUH???? Fashion watchers have seen the rise in popularity of Balmain in the past few years. As such, they have started a small men's capsule collection. I'd love to see the leathers in person, but from the presentation, it looks like a lot of streetwear gone wrong...

I thought I'd post this just to get a discussion going on directions for streetwear from "couture" houses and to see what might be salvaged from this ship. http://www.wwd.com/fashion-season-mi...2009-1945452#/ Balmain Men's RTW Fall 2009 Balmain Men's RTW Fall 2009 by WWD Staff Posted Saturday January 24, 2009 From WWD.COM Add Note After heating up the women’s collection to the boiling point, Christophe Decarnin has turned to the Balmain man. It’s clear he’s still getting warmed up, with a small yet trendy sophomore collection including fitted jackets and leather blousons, worn with ripped jeans. A few of the "better" offerings:

It looks like they all made a pact to shop on Yoox at the same time and order only the tasteless stuff

And now they realize what a mess they've made and share the same look of perplexed disappointment

It's exactly like what Decarnin wears and it sucks about as much as the womenswear, I bet the guys at vogue france will be all over it just like their female counterparts.

^Exactly my feelings all around. And, given the price points (it's hard to find a pair of pants from Balmain less than $1000), I'm a little confused how they think this might work.

I think it's great when we post collections we love, but I think it can also be helpful to show what NOT to do or what perplexes us in terms of aesthetic, presentation, price, etc. I was interested to see if anybody else had as negative reaction to this as I did, or if maybe I were just being too touchy.

Gaudy printed tees, overly-distressed/reconstructed jeans, and cheap-looking leather. I see this every Saturday night. I wonder if there's a hidden pocket for Rohypnol.

Well I'll be damned. It's new collection, DiamondartÃ

!

Heh, that second guy up there looks like something I'd put together.

I can't quantify what constitutes "boot tuck done right", but all of those outfits look like boot tuck done egregiously wrong to me.
