Badly scuffed shell

Had a drunk night and woke up with my favorite pair of shoes covered in scuffs. I know that a teaspoon can be used instead of deer bone, and I've been trying to erase the marks, but all that seems to happen is that the spoon gets extremely hot and starts burning my thumb. Any advice, maybe videos?

Thanks!

Did you use a dollop of shoe cream as a lubricant?

Put the shoe on a good-fitting shoe tree, then apply shoe cream (the soft stuff in glass jars, not the wax in tins) over the scratch and slide the back of a metal tea spoon in rotary movements over the scratch (it's a feeling like sliding over mud). Sing: "Here we go round the Mulberry bush..." or whatever you prefer. Do that for several minutes, then wipe off the excessive shoe cream and brush...and brush...and bush!

It might not cure it, but it certainly should ease the problem.

Well I bought Meltonian neutral shoe cream polish (in glass jar as advised) and started going at the scuffs, but all that I'm noticing is that the scratched area is becoming darker than the already dark brown shell, and the area is becoming duller.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

I should invent an auto-brusher for shell enthusiasts and make a small fortune.

Wiping the area with a damp cloth followed by vigorous brushing often works.
