Hello SF members.

This is a two part story:

PART1: ATTOLINI shopping
I took a trek down to Los Angeles from the Bay Area w/my gf to the great Los Angeles area to do some shopping.

I went to the worldsfinest shop that also has an internet shop on ebay.
The biggest surprise for me was how small the store was. I was expecting something bigger. The other thing is that they're internet prices were better than the ones in person.

Nevertheless, I decided to ask for the Attolini suits in 44R and see what they're all about.

I was GREATLY impressed. I tried a grey patterned super 150s Attolini 3 button and thought it fit like a glove. I have broad shoulders and it fit perfectly. The material was so thin/smooth and nothing like I'd ever tried before.

My eyes were opened to this new world of high end RTW almost bespoke quality suit. I do like my rtw suits, but I wouldn't mind having 1 or 2 attolni's in there as well. That wouldn't be too bad of a roster (2 zegnas, 2 collezionis, 2 hugos, and 2 attolinis..).

Unfortunately I couldn't justify the price of the suit (still above 1500 bucks)..and my gf couldn't justify it either(she usually encourages such purchases).

PART2: COUTURE BOUTIQUE
We proceeded to head to a small boutique in LA near around Pasadena(That's all the info I can give...I'm actually going to keep this part a secret because it's my little thing)....

I have a friend who works at the boutique who actually gets couture clothing directly from NY and STRAIGHT from the runway.

That's where I got most of my suits from. They are not the type that are from nordstrom or saks. They are special one offs for runway/shows that have very good quality to them.

This was the first time I introduced my gf to this place and she FLIPPED OUT.

The ladies section of the boutique has valetino, miu miu, dolce & gabanna, prada, jil sander couture stuff and at discount dept store prices.
(they are still in the 100s mind you..but much less than you'd expect).

The mens section has armani, prada, miu miu, suits...jill sander level shoes and had a pair of aldens the last time I was there.
Unfortunately since most of this is runway the suits were 38s or 38r and meant for men who are size medium.
I NEVER bought pants there because they usually run very TIGHT and a little to EURO for me.

They just happen to run into a rare 44 now and then and I always come to snatch those up.

On this trip...I ended up buying a 100% wool black jacket from DKNY w/leather pads on the sleeves for 90 dollars. IT was a 500 dollar jacket. Outrageous. I also bought a similar button collor vest w/the same material.

My gf was eyeing some all leather, tan dolce and gabanna boots that are one offs. She's emploring me to take her back there in 2-3 weeks so I can pick her up those boots. She ended up picking up a bvlgari leather handbag that was couture.

In addition, they also had a plethora of Gucci, Valentino, prada, and Versace watches around.

I know most of this won't interest a lot of the SF club because the brands above don't really excite you.

I agree w/a lot you say though. Most of it is overpriced. That is why I appreciate this boutique that has them usually at 30% of retail. And the most interesting part is that most are one off or limited edition pieces from the runway.

Some of you may already know where this store is. Sorry for the secrecy, but I am just into keeping this place to ourselves so we can keep getting their nice items. Also not everyone's going to like couture.

I just like one off items that aren't available everywhere.

I can post pictures of the jackets I got there and the boots my gf gets soon.

CONCLUSION:

1)Attolini's are MY FIRST CHOICE in suits..by far.
1a) I need to pick up some John Lobb shoes to go w/my next attollini suit.

2)Los Angeles has a lot of small unique places to get some great stuff.

3)Priorities - I ended up buying a DLP 50" TV instead of dropping the money on the attolini suit.

Hope the story was interesting =)

I happen to be a 38S and visit Pasadena at least one weekend a month. I would greatly appreciate a PM.

I'm glad I don't care about TV's - just last week I was telling my dad I'd rather get a 20" lcd tv and a bespoke suit than a big plasma screen.

As to the World's Finest warehouse - I can't believe you thought it was small. The space is kinda small considering how much is packed in there - maybe that's what you meant. I think he has the biggest inventory I've ever seen. There are, literally, hundreds of Borrelli, Barba, Truzzi and other shirts in my size (15.75/40). Hundreds! I was there a few weeks ago and bought 3 shirts but I really didn't see 75% of the choices. My biggest complaint is that the shirts are in plastic storage bins and it's a lot of work to see them all. As to the suits and sportcoats - there are a few dozen Borrelli and Attolini suits in my size, and that many sportcoats/blazers at least beyond that. Plus several overcoats and tweed casual hunting jackets and the like. I haven't even started with teh hundreds of ties, casual trousers and dress trousers. Oh, tons of Italian sweaters, Avon Celli, Columbo, and several other brands I don't remember. The place is mind blowing. you could easily spend a full day in there trying on clothes if you are a relatively common size. I would guess that only half of his inventory is even on the website. I'm also not sure what you mean by the prices being higher there than online. That may be true with some pieces, but in most cases I've seen Ian sells all items for the cost of the opening ebay bid if you're in the store (well below the ebay BIN price).

That's been my experience as well. Ian's a good guy, and a must-see for people visiting LA.

I like the place..don't get me wrong. Just that the price for the Attolini that I wanted was out of my range. Actually I wasn't being realistic. I just couldn't justify even if the suit was 1500.

Yes the place had a ton of stuff. It's just the camera pictures from ebay make it look like it's as big as a small macy's...that's all.

Don't get me wrong. When I have the oppoturnity to buy the Attolini's I will definitely be going the worlds finest.

good post!
well, the nice thing is that you now know your size in attolini. I'm pretty sure a 44reg will pop up for around 1500 or less sooner or later, especially if the suit is new, but functional buttonholes have already been added by the original store for customers but were not delivered (Ian's new suits sometimes have this). so ensure you know your exact sleeve length!

who knows? you could easily end up with a Sartoria Attolini, or even a coveted Cesare Attolini, for around $1500 or less-- not a bad deal on a $4000-$6000 suit. Keep a sharp eye on shopthefinest! all i see right now is a 44reg in a navy blue with a pink stripe-- actually, it looks like a killer suit, albeit very dandified. will probably drop in price due to the pink stripe, but it certainly illustrates the shape and cut of the attolini suit:

you GOTTA get an attolini, man! you thought it was nice trying it on? wait until you own one/ wear it!! very, very cool look/ feel, and I noticed more small details every time i wore mine (when i had one in 2003-04).

I thought most male models were a size 42L? Then again a 42L wearing a 38s would give you that popular Thom Browne look.

Yes Sir.

Sartoria Attolini is the lower line.

Attolini is quite good, but there is one maker that I can think of that may just be better than Attolini... Erinco Isaia... Top End.

Are you sure? I thought SA was before their last reorganization, and Cesare Attolini is what they're called after their reorg. Both are the same quality.

Interesting; while I've never tried anything by Attolini -- but am interested -- I do have an Enrico Isaia suit, which I purchased from Saks/SF several years ago before Isaia became a popular name. Outstanding fabrication and fit. I believe I read somewhere that Enrico is father of Gianluca (Isaia), who is the more popular and a favorite of members on this forum.

I have read, and I could be mistaken, that Sartoria is the RTW and Cesare is Custom (at least in Italy, that's what it is).
