Was wondering if anyone else took advantage of the B. Bros. 25 percent off Make a Wish sale today and yesterday. I picked up a pair of tobacco suede brouge/balmorals for about $290. They were priced at the old price ($378) instead of the new ($428) price they recently put on the Peal shoes. Plus I had a $20 gift card, so I think I came out pretty well. Anyway, I thought Peal were made by C&J, but I recall someone saying Alfred Sargent now was making the Peal shoes for Brooks. I asked the salesman and of course you know how that turned out: Salesman:"It's on the bottom of the shoe" Stu: "It says Peal." Salesman: "Well that's who makes it then."

I went yesterday, got a bunch of shirts and sweaters for my chick. I got into a short discussion with the salesguy about shoes, and his opinion was that "crockett & jones et al rip off the classic style of Brooks Brothers and sell them under their name"

their medallion'd wholecut has gotta still be C&J because it's exactly the Weymouth. some of the newer "made in England" shoes didnt look like C&J styles so it could be Sargent

The two makers used to be distinguishable by the nail pattern in the heel and the color of the stamp on the insole: C&J uses a single row of nails and Sargent used a double row in the heels. Sargent also stamped the insole in gold. I haven't looked at Peal shoes in over a year, so I don't know if this is still true.
