Maybe it's age or something, but there have been a few times in the last couple of years that I have turned on the radio and heard a shockingly awful song. So bad that I have really been amazed that it was even written and produced. It happened again today. The ones I distinctly remember:

Sk8er Boy - Avril Lavigne
My Humps - Black Eyed Peas
Lips of Angel - I do not know, but I suspect five white guys with longer hair who never, ever smile for pictures.
I Like Girls who Wear Abercrombie & Fitch - LFO (?)
Do Your Chain Hang Low? - no idea, but I suspect a southern black guy.

Incidentally, I think song titles are actually supposed to be in quotes, with album titles italicized, but oh well.

I suppose this thread has no point, but I just had to get this off my chest.

America - Horse with No Name (is that the title?)

Lips of an Angel sounds alright, but I'm not too sure about the lyrics. Something bothers me about the Lips/Angel connection, maybe I never imagined angels with lips? They always seemed more ethereal to me.

Agreed on my humps, what a terrible song.

I also hate most new Gwen Stefani stuff and anything by Kelis.

I just feel the lyrics of the Lips of an Angel song, which read somewhat like a thirteen year old girl's ode to Zack Morris, sound absolutely hilarious when sung by some guy attempting to rock out with a histrionically deep and badass voice. An excerpt:

It's really good to hear your voice say my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It's funny that you're calling me tonight
And, yes, I've dreamt of you too

I don't believe any thread of this nature is complete without a mention of We Built This City by Starship.

I thought "boi" was lesbian term for a rather boyish girl or a gay term for a boyish man. Not sure though, as I am neither lesbian nor gay

I can say without hesitation that probably anything by Jessica Simposn and her ilk are bad.

Some bad music can be appreciated for its kitsch, but I can't imagine anything of merit in this.

There's even a spelling mistake in the title, for Christ's sake. Unless it's a sly reference to her homegirls in the Netherlands.

Yes, but the question is whether that makes the song better or worse. "Chain Hang Low" is the worst and most offensive song I've heard for a long time. I am to this day unsure of whether Jibb is ignorant of the origin of his tune or is fully aware and wishes to pioneer a new genre of minstrel rap. Either way, that song kills my pride and denigrates me with its ***** iconography. If I ever see Jibb in person, I will tell him to suck dick, just like that (no ****). He makes the Ying Yang Twins look like Cornell West.

I hate to get into a topic like this, because even thinking of some awful songs can get them stuck in your head. I'll mention two:

The first U.S. hit by one of the most truly awful bands to become really popular: Whole Lotta Love.

When I was in college and staying in my (now) wife's dorm room, the women right below us on the stairwell played it incessantly, and it still evokes a violent reaction in me:
Me and Mrs. Jones.

Last night I had another reaffirmation why radio sucks. Some band, more likely than not (hard to tell, they all sound the same), Nickelback singing about the rock star lifestyle - boozing up, Playboy bunnies, mansions, joining the mile high club... it was complete shite. I'm willing to bet that 10 minutes of work went into writing this song: 5 minutes for the lyrics, 2 minutes to find out what barre chords to play, and 3 minutes to hack together a guitar solo comprised of previous Nickelback guitar solos.
