but anyways, I was just looking at these RL ones, they're on sale now.
These are made by Crockett and Jones right?
I want to buy them, but I need a proxy because I'm in Toronto. (earlier I posted that I'm looking for one in the b&s forum)...

The most certainly are NOT C&J. Clearly listed as made in Italy...

These are from: theshopforshoes.com, but I am sure there are plenty of other online sellers.

Oh, yeah! Those are some sweeeeet lookin' boots! That price is too good to be true, though. What kind of reputation does this manufacturer have for quality? Anyone?

I tried on a pair of Santonis last week at Nordstrom's. They were very comfortable and very tempting, but I recall them being pretty dark -- or at least darker than I wanted at the time. I'll have to go back and have another look. They were $450, I think.

Loake is a well-made English brand. Also, if the finish/antiquing of the leather is what gets you going, buy the Loakes and contact forum member RIDER to have him work on the finish for you. He'll do an antique finish for you for a reasonable price that will make them look much more custom than anything you can buy withing $1K of the Lobbs. That way you get your nice finish and a good price. Just be sure to start with a pair of boots that's light enough in color that you'll get some variation out of the antiquing. If you start with a dark brown you won't be able to get the variation.

If I may......I've worn Chelseas, chukkas, etc for well over 20 years, everything from R M Williams to J M Westons. I wish I could afford those Lobbs but if you're looking for something similar in design without breaking the bank, take a look at Shipton & Heneage.

Someone else had recommended Williams and I concur. Just thought you might appreciate another option.

How do Shipton & Heneage compare with RL, Santonis and Marteganis in terms of quality, style, durability, comfort, etc?

Hi Karim, First of, I've never own a Martegani before so I will leave that one out. Would love to know more about them though. Comfort - Santoni first, RL & S&H on par. Quality - Santoni, RL & S&H on par. Durability - S&H, mine have been abused pretty severely. Style - You're comparing Italian and British style here, and the subject is boots. The British have been producing these since the Victorian era when they were first called Paddock boots. The Italians updated these along the way. For me, I like the traditional English style better than the Italian. For dress boots, my choice will be British first, followed by French. For daily abusive wear, I go with the Aussies. I know this would be a sticky point on this forum because a good number of folks are very much into Italian designers. So am I but not for boots. Just my personal opinion so please take it for what it's worth. Hope this helps.

For what it's worth, I believe S&H shoes are made by Alfred Sargeant or Crockett & Jones. The AS models are priced more cheaply than the C&Js. Both AS and C&J make great shoes, and there are many threads here discussing them.

Those Loake 290's are awesome. Would the 290's or the RM Williams comfort craftsman make a better first chelsea boot? I prefer the composite soles of the williams, but the styling of the Loakes is fantastic.
