Both are average at best.

+1 on the Banana Pudding, everything else there seems kind of meh.

I've lived in quite a few places throughout the US that lacked any small independent bakeries. Suburbs won't have any either (Panera or whatever doesn't count).

I also see this with the Pike Place Market in Seattle. It's actually a pretty mediocre market, and actual farmers hardly show up there anymore, yet thousands of tourists visit it daily. It's like they've never seen a piece of fruit or fish in their entire lives.

Butter Lane on east 7th street makes a damn good cupcake. You can smell the butter when you walk thru the door. you can combine various cakes/frostings and can sample the frostings first.

it is just a cupcake and they are all overpriced imho but i would go back

The best cupcake I have found so far is from Sweet Revenge. A small shop in the west village, awesome people working there, amazing cupcakes, cozy place for a date, they serve alcohol too.

Gonna have to try this place out. I usually frequent Sugar Sweet Sunshine in LES. As far as Magnolia's concerned, the less said the better. It's unfortunate that it's spreading like a disease across Manhattan.

It seems all of you are missing out.

The best bakery in NYC? Billy's Bakery on 9th avenue between 21/22nd street.
Better than anything you have ever tasted, i promise you that.
The banana cake, cookie sandwiches, and sugar cookies are by far my favorite.

I feel sorry for the people who fall for this, specially the ones coming off a SATC tour bus.

clair with something sweet and tasty margarine- like filling.
Ignorance is a bliss.

I cannot find a decent baguette in NYC let alone pastries . Forget about real rye bread, I have to export it from Finland.

In NYC if one wants real bread, pastry or decent cup of coffee, one might as well stay at home.
