i just received the Avon Celli sketchbook from avon celli showing their total of aboutt 185 pieces from spr/sum 05. i'm trying to work a deal w/ them. just checking for opinions, as there have been times i've had avon celli and the pieces sold well, then other times i had basic pieces that didn't sell. i see other avon celli sell well and other not. this book included EVERYTHING you can possibly imagine, cashmere zipnecks, sweatshirts, several pants and shirts, polos, T's, vnecks etc etc etc. lots of color too, which is hit or miss. i LOVE the color, but my borrelli sweaters haven't done as well as i'd hoped, probably b/c of color. these pieces also are with the higher euro so the price points they'd command in stores is higher than normal. any opinions?

Avon Celli is some of the best sportswear out there, up there with Cuccinelli and Loro Piana. The styling is very understated, however the feel of the fabrics are first rate. With that said, it no wonder why it doesn't do well online; you need to put it on to expect those prices. It a tough sell on looks alone.

    Lance,
Have you looked at Ian Daniel's store and seen how much Avon Celli he has for sale? Lots of knitwear out there on EBay and some of it (Loro Piana, Purple Label and Malo) probably has better brand recognition. I don't have any knits from Avon Celli (have a pair of trousers from them) but it seems relatively expensive (at least on Ian's site)

Avon Celli is the nobility of Italian sportwear companies, with a venerable history dating back to the early 1920's. Cary Grant wore AC sweaters as did other legendary names in Hollywood. Today, many, if not most, just don't discern the quality of AC apparel, much of which is still made on looms from the nineteenth century. Candidly, who really cares, with the exception of a relative few?

I forgot that the prices of Avon Celli are much much higher in the States than here in Europe... but still, the prices he is charging is near retail in Italy.

Avon Celli makes amazing clothes, but I have never bought any because most of what I see is sweaters and knit shirts -- which I don't need more of. Those things I wouldn't wear much if at all to the office (mine is business casual), which leaves weekends and evenings. I still have sweaters going back to my college and law school days (10-15 years ago), so it's not something I personally "need" enough to buy. For example, I've got dozens of knits and a couple dozen sweaters; I'm not going to spend $169 or $199 on a nice $650 Avon Celli sweater though as it still means I'm spending alot of money on something I won't get much wear out of.

Didn't the US slap retaliatory tariffs on cashmere, among other things, because of EU trade policy on bananas or something like that? I seem to remember reading something about that. AK, FIHTies, any of you guys ITB who sell cashmere, can you confirm or deny?

In any event, European-knitted cashmere has gotten extremely expensive over the past couple of years.

I would be a buyer of AC sweater if you can source them. I like color and I am a size 52. I like the zip mocks and full zip sweaters. PM me if you get a selection. Thank you.
