...ok, fine, Apple would honor it. Apple is not the standard of course, and there plenty of manufacturers which would not.

For example, Sony gives you a 60 day warranty on refurbs. There, my position is now equally as strong as yours. The point is that AE does *not*. Who cares what Apple does?

As for outlets which do not take returns, ferragamo, off the top of my head. I know there are more, as well as places that will only give store credit, but I can't remember specifics at the moment.

What's this? You want your cake....and eat it too? [IMG] It appears as though you may have leaked bodily fluids into your shoes during those months. I rule in AE's favour on this 100%.

Yeah, I mean... I commiserate with the OP, it sucks (though I'm not sure how shoes spontaneously twist out of shape like that...), but he is saying "Don't buy AE seconds", when those who know what they are all about would know what we were getting into. It's a lesson, now you know OP.

In my experience the AE shoes at Nordstrom Rack bear little resemblance to the mainline AE shoes that I have purchased elsewhere. They are almost always ugly models and the leather often feels very cheap. I would never pay $200+ for any of the pairs I've seen there.

Nordstrom Rack is a terrible store and nobody should be shopping there for anything but the cheap Woodlore shoe trees.

    Now you're catching on....

There are a few ways in which an item enters an outlet mall. 1) It is manufactured expressly for the outlets with an entirely fabricated MSRP. 2) It failed miserably at MSRP and all subsequent sale attempts. 3) It is defective. The common thread is that it is nearly always better to be patient and save your money for the real thing.

As to the OP's plight, the only sympathy I have is that AE customer service should have stopped you at "Nordstrom Rack" and saved you the shipping. If multiple pairs of your shoes are bowing like this, it would be my unqualified guess that it is due to some practice or fit issue you have, which is a question best posed in another thread.

honestly, when I buy a pair of seconds, I am prepared for them to fail at any time. Thats the risk when you get a 40%+ discount on a pair of shoes.

If you want to avoid this issue, buy a pair of new first quality shoes directly from AE. They will offer you miraculous customer service and exchange any pair you aren't happy with.

I wasnt aware the Rack sold seconds. I have looked at some there and did not see anything on the label I recall advertising this fact. They should make that clear for the masses that dont frequent SF.

I have bought several AEs from the shoebank, and I assume risk, but so far I've been very pleased.

Even if some of them are not seconds, you chances of getting a problem resolved if it does occur would be less if not impossible than if you had purchased firsts from Nordstroms or Allen Edmonds.

These places have and will address issues long after (reasonable) the sale.

Thinking about this, AE spoils its customers with its great customer service. How else to explain why OP would even think to ask for a new pair and become disgruntled when he did not receive them. Think about it:

    - OP bought seconds from Nordstrom Rack
    - OP wore the shoes for close to two years and left a sweaty imprint of his foot in the shoe
    - After this extensive wear, OP noticed the shoes are bowing and asked AE to address the issue (presumably, he wanted a new pair)

Even if OP's shoes had been firsts from AE, it would be pretty incredible for a shoe company to replace them after 1.5 years of heavy wear. Yet, I think AE likely would have made the exchange based on past experiences reported on SF and the fact they asked him to ship the shoes back.

I agree that the OP's shoes look like they have gone through a lot of abuse. I have AE's that are 6-10 years old and get regular wear that don't look this bad inside.

I've bought AE 2nds from them directly without issue and at very good prices. They sell only at their outlet shops and over the phone at 1( 262 ) 235-6300. I have no affiliation with them and offer this merely as information. Mods if you consider this spam, please delete, my feelings will be unscathed. :)

I'm sorry to dump on the OP here but those shoes look pretty rough. I've purchased many, many pairs of Cole Haan shoes and now my first pair of AEs from Nordstrom's Rack and have never had a single issue with any of them - they performed no differently than 'first rate' shoes. Of course, I ensure a proper size, polish them regularly, and use shoe trees when not in use. I've got to think that the OP didn't purchase the proper size or that the shoes were somehow not treated properly when not in use. I'm sorry, but I can't blame AE for that.
