My story: I purchased these shoes, Hinsdale model, at Nordstrom Rack. I own several pair of AE shoes and like my other AEs these fit great and are very comfortable. After a few months, the shoes started to bow out on the sides where you put your foot in. I contacted customer service and they said “no problem” send them back and we'll repair or exchange them. Great!, I thought.

Long story short, an AE rep Tina L called me back and said sorry these shoes are “seconds” and we don't repair them and they are not covered by any sort of warranty. They sent them back to me. BTW, I paid to ship these shoes to AE in Wisconsin.

I don't understand why AE allows Nordstrom Rack to sell shoes that are not up to snuff. My shoes didn't have this problem when I tried them on at the store. I wouldn't have bought them if they did.[IMG]

Count me as a dissatisfied customer.

They are seconds.....so they would not necessarily be first rate.

But as seconds you paid a reduced price from firsts. Part of that price reduction is that the warranty is not valid. Another part of it is that the shoes had some issue, maybe decorative, possibly structurally, that caused them to fall into the Seconds bin. I would not blame Nordstroms nor AE here.

They were first rate when I bought them. Then they deteriorated.

Sorry to hear about the problem.

However whenever you buy with the idea of getting a deal to strictly just save money, you need to understand that the typical guarantees and warantees normally will not apply.

They could have told me before I shelled out $$ to ship these shoes to them.

I told them I bought them at N. Rack. I thought these were shoes that regular Nordstrom couldn't sell or last year's model. I don't know how to tell a seconds shoe from a regular one.

Okay, so I am on a Grumpy Cat kick today. But have you spoken with Nordstroms?

I received a pair of defective AE's directly from their 1st quality warehouse as a replacement for a flawed shoe (which was also supposed to be 1st quality). I won't tell others to do the same, but I'll be taking my money elsewhere from now on.

Do you use shoe trees or if not, carry wads of cash around your ankles?

Then I would do as recomended.

I would speak with AE customer service and explain that you had told them that you had purchased them at Nordstroms rack before shipping them off, and see what they will do. Maybe they would be willing at the minimum to reimburse shipping. See what they are willing to offer.

If necessary I would speak with Nordstroms Rack and see what they would be willing to do.

I am aware that Nordstrom rack AE's are seconds as I learned how to tell from the styleforum. Why would we expect random consumers to know that merchandise sold in their stores are not supported by manufacturer warranties. I buy discounted sale items from other stores that the manufacturer stands behind.

I agree that they shouldn't stand behind their seconds, however perhaps NR should educate their consumers?
