    Here are some pics of the process of making a shirt the automated way. This site shows steps such as cutting the fabric by rotoshere in thick stacks of fabric, ironing done by a machine, and a machine attaching the buttons. http://www.edel2000.it/sarto/sartoria/homeE.htm

    As manual labor becomes more expensive, machines would do well to replace it. It's just how it goes.
