Audi brought its Le Mans winning turbo diesel sports racer to the Paris Auto Show.

Additionally, it brought the stylistically controversial R8 to the show. I tried to capture the R8 from many angles. It is a difficult car for me to photograph. The only photo images that I enjoy are the rear shots from an angle. All that said, I simply don't like the looks of the car. It reminds me far too much of the Nissan Z / Infinity cars. For me, that is not a pleasant reminder.

I like the R8 though I prefer the original LeMans concept of a few years past. The narrow LED lights are gorgeous and it's thoughtfully designed. But the profile isn't so attractive and I think the two-tone color scheme looks nicer.

For some reason the car does not look exotic at all.

Your remark about the profile is right on the mark. The flanks are terribly heavy and prevent the front from smoothly integrating with rear in profile view. Other elements (as you note) are quite striking. However, on the whole, I cannot disregard what I see as ponderous and heavy "hips" on the design.

It may be easy for me to criticize the design. It would not be so easy for me to provide a design solution that in any fashion would equal or better what Audi has done.

(Also, the Citroën Metisse C you inquired about is now up in Part 4 of the Paris Auto Show thread.)
