1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

actually, there must be a connection to northern italy, which i have to research.

this style is known as "haferlschuh" and is the "official" shoe for austrian-bavarian national costume.

"Tirolese" is the Italian name for a Goiserer-type welt.

Any knowledge of northern Italian shoe making just a smidge further east, Carnia, Friuli, etc. etc.?

My inlaws are from there. Beautiful place.

I saw a few shoe lasts in the local museum last summer - but no real information.

back in the days, we've just returned from our trip to budapest and were fully motivated. Mr. Berta had introduced us to a local shoemaker a month ago. we deceided to change the pace from black shoes...

well, we bought this amber coloured french chevreaux hide and ordered chelsea boots. the rest is history.

It's the F last. Turns out rikod and I share similar shoe sizes and he had a brand new pair of Asquith in dark brown to sell. I'm the new owner. :) The shoes allow a higher instep than what I have, but a pair of Taccos took care of the problem.

Now I'm going to wear them a whole lot then plan my next Vass purchase.
