Hey just got a response from Herringbone -- no plans for a Melbourne pop-up sale at this time, or so they say.

My Members Tie will probably be arriving today. It's what's keeping me at work, otherwise I'd be "working from home" today..

I'm surprised in Brisbane they even wore shoes to court.

Anyway, you get off or just out on bail?

Anyone have any suggestions for dry finger tips? The edges of fingers where nails end tend to be pretty dry and hard for me to the point where it can snag ties. need to soften them up.

I've never heard of anyone being admonished for wearing tan, burgundy, brown or any other shoes.

I'm often in many different situations on boards, in meetings with government minister etc. it's not uncommon , even at high levels to be only person in room witha tie. Often in a sea of black shiney suits hanging loosely off shoulders. It's also not uncommon to be Ina room full of ties, nice enough suits and shirts. But almost universally the shoes are pretty bloody bad, although I must say I think it is improving.

I have worked with some very senior people who I'd be prepared to bet only have one pair of good black shoes, a pair of white athletic shoes for home and perhaps a pair of blundstones or RM Williams for weekends.

One regular board, that has a subcommittee meeting today,* I'm on out of 6 men there is 3 of us that wear "English" shoes. That is very unusual. And has on,y been with some new members recently.

Most places I would be the only person wearing English shoes. And I'm only a medium timer.

    * (cos its raining and only a subcommittee, I'm wearing burgundy chukkas with dainite sole, blue narrow wale cord trousers, black/white/grey herringbone tweed sport coat, white button down with broad light blue butchers stripe, burgundy Repp tie with thin white stripes, I'll be as well dressed as anyone there and possible better than all staff and visitors and members)

I'll try to remember to jot down what people are wearing. I'm the chair so I might have other things to do and I dont think I can ask the minute secretary to note the clothes and fit and if the shoes are stitched or glued.

I have English shoes. Can I join a board? Sounds like fun.

    Sometimes it is fun.

Mostly it's serious and hard work.

Some boards have intelligent, nice people who are a pleasure to work with and help expand thinking and horizons. Others can be idiots who are rude and ignorant.

It's a bit like Internet forums.
