anyone else been watching Get Smart on a Saturday afternoon lately? Always been a great show, but I'm watching it with a new appreciation for their clothes - they wear some great stuff.

I notice the way people dress in movies as well now.
the other day i watched A Single Man and was distracted by how well dressed most of the actors were.

Good call CEP, though you are far too kind about my little Tumblr site. It is mostly just a reblog of images that look good to me and has been much neglected recently.

Some other Australian Thread SFers have great sites including appolyon (though I wish he would move to Tumblr so it was easier to follow), thebrownman, iamDil, Phat Guido and EthanDesu (though the last two rarely post here anymore). Other Australian based Tumblrs worth checking out are -

    Anyone have any others?

Looking through my archive (linenforSummertweedforwinter.tumblr.com/archive) I found a few post than might be of interest to some here.

CEP this tie caught my eye many months ago -

appolyon, maybe an outfit for your next night out? - http://linenforsummertweedforwinter...38/voxsart-velvet-anderson-sheppard-celestial

And it would not be a good post without a few links for the most impressive Tumblr around, fxh's look book, sexyankles.tumblr.com -

Without wishing to challenge Gerry Nelson as the undisputed shoe king, I thought I'd pop up the list of my shoes. Currently getting quite a few glares from the wife - perhaps I have too many?

    Black Shoes
    A. Testoni wholecuts
    Santoni FAM monks
    Bally Split toe
    Zee oxford captoe (MTM)
    Tods penny loafers

    Brown Shoes
    C&J Audley dk brown
    Loake Hilton semi-brogue medium brown
    Loake Chester wingtips tan
    Zee wingtips (MTM) dk brown
    A. Testoni loafers dk brown
    Allen Edmonds Hillcrest tan
    Santoni suede brogues dk brown
    C&J Kent suede loafers chocolate

    Burgundy shoes
    Santoni FAM wingtip monks
    Edward Green suede wingtips
    Alfred Sargent Holt derby

    Boots
    RM Williams chestnut
    Loake Kempton tan
Herring Clare brogue boots dk brown

I also have a pair of chestnut C&J Westbournes on order.

Sadly, when I look at the list I just want more. Better black dress shoes, oxblood, cherry, double monks, so many things yet to try ...

Hmm, CottonWork has increased their prices by over 10% since i last used them. What's also funny is that the shirt's are more expensive in AUD than in USD, when it should be the other way around due to the strength of the AUD.

The clothes on Get Smart have always been fantastic. Mainly a USA take on UK 60s. Sometimes Max looks a bit odd but always natty. Max usually wears double vented jackets, an oddity in USA until relatively recently.

In contrast the Chief wears wonderful classic Ivy look stuff, relaxed natural shoulders, grey tweed herringbone jackets with collar latch, I wish I had some of chiefs jackets. He also has the classic Brooke's button down with a nice roll and suitable rep ties in a narrow width. We unfortunately don't see much of chiefs trousers and shoes and socks, but I always imagine he is wearing flat front narrow pants, perhaps not as slim as Maxs, and pairing them with Bass Weejuns, slim ons, occasional tassel or mostly Florshiem Imperials Long wings with pebble grain and alternating and black pair with a dark brown pair.

99 of course is simply divine. She is soooo skinny she can wear anything well and agin like Max her outfits are a USA interpretation of European and UK fashion of the 60s. Always well done. Nothing sloppy, nothing too tight, and lots of fun with colours. She always looks great even though in real life she was 10 years older than Max.

Max really does have great suits, pants and jackets. Even his shirts and ties are good but of course he is limited in shoes due to the practicality of accommodating the shoe phone. Most of his jackets have lots of interesting detail, such as flaps on all three front pockets or something different without looking too try hard hipster or look at me faux dandy.

My critiscm, and clearly this is looking back with hindsight over the nearly 50 years since its inception, is that I'd wear Maxs clothes altered a bit to be less tight, I'd let most of his trousers down one half or one whole inch, I'd have deeper vents in the suits, slightly wider lapels, slightly longer jackets and wider ties.

I'd wear Chiefs jackets right now.

The series is great to catch on TV, even better to get DVD and avoid the stupid adverts.

Worthwhile watching to see a variety of costumes each episode, notice the fine tailoring and fit and to ponder why good tailored clothes of today came to be so unadventurous and bland.

Never saw Get Smart growing up in sunny Scotland (too young for the original run and it did not get repeated the way it does here). Loved The Man from UNCLE, The Prisoner and The Avengers (Mrs Peel..we're needed) on repeat for story and style and the description above makes me think I should dig out the DVDs of these and also keep an eye out for Get Smart (at which point I think I am supposed to say "Smart thinking 99" or something).

fxh, any chance of a style breakdown of The Man from UNCLE, The Prisoner or The Avengers. Blahman would be interested in Mrs Peel's catsuits (actually who wouldn't?).

Thanks for the links, will be sure to follow a few, though I've already got a couple. Loved the zou bisou vid, man that was a strange scene.

I also started a tumblr, purely as a non egocentric photoblog of things that I've seen and liked. Tumblr is great for that.
Have a look if you like, though it's mainly just reblogs: http://dartagnan-red.tumblr.com/
