I just bought a pretty non-conservative tie (for some reason, just looking at it makes me smile) and was wondering what you'd pair this with. Based on meeting some of you yesterday, I think a lot of guys here already have a pretty well developed sense of what works.

My thought was to make sure everything else I wear is plain so as not to compete with the tie, e.g. navy suit, white/light blue shirt and white or other plain pocket square similar to how a patterned jacket can be worn with the Italian background.

I'll obviously experiment when it arrives but thought I'd throw it out to the group and get your thoughts.

My thoughts would be much like yours. Keep everything else plain (or perhaps a subtle stripe) and perhaps pick out one colour of the tie as a solid plain square just to anchor it in the ensemble a bit.

Nice to know, Lennier. I'll give this a go when I get the tie.

I can attest to the quality of these ties when I have worn the one I have to work blokes and the misses have complemented on how stylish it looks.

Also interesting extended article in the Fin magazine today on the state of Australian fashion.

Gerry nice tie, but it is pretty loud! If it's too loud for a suit/jacket, I'd try it with a shirt and v-neck jumper. If you're only showing the knot + a little more in the 'V' then you can get away with a more colorful tie I think (I do this with paisley ties).

Thanks, Toby! In the worst case, I can always use it for Easter eggs [IMG]

Yes I think Gerry's on the right track. I think the tie would work best with a pale blue shirt and navy suit. A white shirt would be too high contrast for my taste.

    Hey all!

Just saw Patrick Johnson this morning to pick up my casual suit.

Here it is - french navy; three curved patch pockets; light brown horn buttons; half lined; Dugdale Bros worsted - with a brown Cappelli tie:

Don't know what's going on with the crease on the right side; as you can see from Pic 3, it's not always there and I think it'll be gone once I've worn the suit in. The heavier fabric perhaps?

All in all, I love it and the coat will see lots of use as a sport jacket.

Other news: I saw and tried on Pat's DB with the Neapolitan Spalla Camicia shoulder; it's exquisite. Very, very light, almost like a shirt. Also, for all you afficionados of the 3-roll-2 button config... Pat now offers it as well as wider lapels!
