I had exactly the same experience. Horrible, horrible pilling -- in fact I just spent two evenings cleaning up a navy jumper with a disposable razor (tedious but satisfying) :/

I think the Country Road merino knitwear is quite good, fit is nice and trim generally and the wool is good, and at around $100 bucks I think are good quality. I have a grey v-neck that has been going for around 3 years now with no pilling at all. I've had bad pilling problems on a navy Saba knit though.

Sorry, my error, tomorrow (and I am not even going unfortunately!), will correct my message.

Thank you so much regarding the Laces. Australian Members thread at it's finest.

Country Road merino vnecks are alright indeed. I have a thin light grey one with dark grey contrast for a couple of years. Despite label saying dry clean only, I've hand washed and shade dried it and haven't shrunk or pilled (although I do wish it shrank a bit since although it's marked a Small, it's still a little bigger than what I like it to be). Bought it for about $75 during their sales. My Uniqlo cardigan I bought for about $30 in Japan pilled quite a bit though.

^ Country Road did decently priced knitwear, I still have a crew neck which is Merino80% & Cashmere 20% which I have never had to shave due to pilling. Pilling in particular has been a bane with Cashmere in particular a William Lockie cable knit.

However what I have seen of Country Road in the past couple of years I would not touch, overpriced and don't go for the style and colour combos.

So basically we're all at home each night shining our shoes, ironing our shirts, waxing our laces and shaving our jumpers?

Did someone here start that tumblr just to troll fxh?

I too am interested in picking up a couple of cardigans and some turtlenecks for the winter but will probably bite the bullet and purchase from John Smedley (their return policy sounds pretty good). Let's keep the knitwear suggestions coming.

Ha. That's funny. I was home alone last night so I relaxed by putting Whiskeytown on the turntable and getting my bone out.

On knitwear, I have some Rodd & Gunn which I have been happy with. Got to assume the Kiwis know their stuff when it comes to woolly jumpers.

(apologies - I couldn't resist, but I do acknowledge that this post reads a bit like a bad Carry On movie - more tea vicar?)

I got a really nice black cashmere v-neck at the Thomas Pink part of DJ's last time they had a 50% off sale, and their latest 50% off sale appears to have started today. From memory it was $150.
