1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Let me know if they release a batch of navy knit ties – in fact, just get it for me and I’ll sort you out!

Did anyone get fitted by Damiano Labricciosa this visit? Apparently Mauro de Poi of Pal Zileri is at Harrolds in the coming weeks also.

A family friend is going to see Mauro de Poi. Though when you earn $800,000 a year what's 5 or so on a nice suit!

Went there after work tonight and went a bit mad, I guess. I grabbed the last size 40 suit, a mid-grey with a white windowpane. I'm very low on shirts, so I picked up on their 5 for 4 offer. They were not too awful, and one was even a plain white FC. Also a couple of pocket squares, including a nice white one with a blue border. Ties were disgusting, and no knitwear or pants.

The guy who served me said they will be getting new stock in tomorrow morning.

I ended up getting about six of the (ahem!) handkerchiefs. At nine bucks a pop, no biggie.

part of me wishes I hadn't read that :)

bought 5 shirts today, though one of them is that green PoW check which probably won't get much wear.

Can any Sydneysiders help with this one.....

I bought some shoes on ebay, advertised as 'Shell Cordovan Vintage Florsheim Imperial'

Unfortunately, they're not from the 'Imperial' line, and more importantly, I am 99.9% sure they're not shell.

I took them to Bryce's in Castlereagh St, to see if they could confirm this. Both guys there had never heard of 'shell cordovan', and only knew the colour cordovan.

The guy at Coombs in the Strand was somewhat more helpful, but I want another opinion.

So, does anyone know of someone who can positively ID shell?

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

    Cheers,

    Eightace

Nice pickup - I tried that on this morning and for a brief moment considered buying it however there was something with the shape or size of the peak lapels on my frame that made me think twice about it. I was surprised by how soft the shoulders were - very little padding at all.

I tried on one of the ties tonight, and have to agree with Naka's earlier comments - the knots they create are rubbish. Their older ties from a few years back made a far better knot - I suspect its because they are narrower now, but could also be a different manufacture as the texture is very different.

    Can you post some pics?

I'm no expert, but I do know that she'll does not develop micro-creases like calf. Instead of creases, it develops "waves". So, if your shoes have creases in them like your calfskin shoes, it's a fair bet they are not cordovan.

However, posting some pics could allow members like Gerry Nelson and TheBrownMan, who have several pairs of shell shoes, to chime in.

If you don't find any Sydneysiders, try posting pictures in this thread or this one and see what the response is.

Id be complaining and asking for them to be either paying you a sum to keep them i.e half or 3/4 of what you paid or for them to pay your return shipping with a full refund.

If you have already given positive feedback open a paypal dispute. Thats very poor form from the seller

I'll be doing that, I just want to confirm absolutely that they're not shell. I'm sure they're not, but I want an expert opinion.

Hi Mate this is 100% calf. I own few pairs of shell cordovan and I can see difference between calf and cordovan form miles.
And Shell Cordovan Vintage Florsheim Imperial is a "long Wing" not a wingtip (this pair is wingtip).
Just have a closer look at my Florsheim DB cordovan.

hey guys, would any of you might be interested in buying some rarely worn tan brogue carmina's in the rain last?

bought some recently and foolishy the width is not suitable for me and i'm not sure if it will stretch with wear.

    They are a UK 8

EDIT: or i may consider going to a cobbler and getting it stretched in width. anyone had experience with this?
