    Ties are relatively size-neutral. :)

And boy, do I have a lotta ties for sale!

And... in addition to the usual 7-8cm ties, which are gaining popularity again, I do have quite a few ties in 9-9.5cm widths for those who have broader shoulders. :slayer:

Have a look at my sig: All of the Zegna ties are 9-9.5cm and I'm going to put on some more.

So, Brownlow night. Seems like the AFL is doing a decent job at enforcing black tie somewhat this year.
Richo seems like he's channeling Thom Brown though with that jacket of his.

    Hey Guys,

I'd like to know - what do you all think of MJ Bale? Has anyone tried on their jackets - would be interested to hear from some Sydney siders? They're not stocked down here in Melbourne.

Ablett is looking pretty sharp in his midnight blue tux.

I think DJ's at Chadstone has some MJ Bale - they certainly had the shirts there on Saturday, didn't notice if they had jackets as well.

Well they've managed to keep them all pretty much in black and white (although I still saw someone in mid-grey..) but I'm not sure I'd call it black tie.
The photo sequence on The Age site is pretty depressing. You have to get about a dozen photos in to the 45 photos before you even see a bow tie. Gary Ablett looks to be reasonably well put together in what appears to be a midnight blue shawl collar, with only pocket flaps as an eccentricity. Although he appears to be wearing a belt.
The vast majority though are extremely loose interpretations of black tie, dominated by black neckties (including a striped one..) and all manner of fashion jackets that appear to be trying very hard to be anything but traditional. Note to footballers: the whole point of black tie is formal wear tradition.
Age, experience and presumably money don't seem to help. Andew Demitriou looks like he grabbed the first thing he saw off the rack at the formal hire store on his way in.
I'm far from a stickler for classic menswear on a day to day basis, but for black tie the rules are meant to at most be bent a little , not pounded to a pulp.:)

    Guys,

I'll be launching my own tie line, Henry Carter Neckwear in March next year. It won't be another SF based business though of course I'd be dumb not to put it out there, so I am looking in to doing some sort of advertising on this thread specifically aimed at the Aussies. Intl postage will be offered but I'll be looking to establish in the local market firstly and fore mostly.

All will be sold via my website which will be up and running by the launch date in march, so the initial collection will be an autumn/winter collection. There will be some cool wool ties, some great basics and mostly just classics that most importantly, I would all wear.

So why might you ask? Well it's important to point out that I haven't been inspired by the pantas and gshens for this adventure but rather by what I see as a gap in the Aussie market. A market dominated by players like Herringbone (too expensive), MJ Bale (too skinny), CR/Trenery (too generic), I really think given my experience in the industry and the market gaps I can make this work.

This won't be a take over the world company, it will be starting small and growing very slowly, 11 designs in the first season and hopefully growing slowly from there adding some shirts and other bits and pieces in coming seasons. I have a few distinct points of difference I believe, which are quality (all completely handmade in Italy), exclusivity (only 20 per fabric made), price (around $79.95 for standard construction and $99.95 for 7 fold) and of course locality.

I have a great supplier who makes for some very big names and I am testing out some samples now, which are just fantastic so I am very excited to see this all come together. When the time comes I'd be more than happy to look in to a trunk show at the very least in Sydney and maybe Melb as well if there is enough demand, giving you guys first chance to buy before going live in march.

    Cheers
    Jason

Sounds cool Jason. Somewhat related, anyone know where i can get a 1inch silver tie bar/clip in Aus? Nowhere stocks small ones and i don't really feel like shelling for double the value of the actual item in shipping from the U.S.

    Hi Guys,

There is a 'Pop Up' Herringbone store starting tomorrow from 7am @ 1 Martin Place.

It runs for 3 or 4 days, based in Westin Hotel there.

Of course I am not at work tomorrow so I'll miss all the normal sizes :(

If anyone goes please let us know what they are clearing!

    Cheers
    JM

    Just purchased!

Now, I have a question, well, a request. I'm off to Italy next month. Rome, Florence, Venice. Is there anything I should take advantage of (fashion wise) while I'm there?

    Cheers,

    Eightace
