    Fellas,

Thanks for all the feedback on bags.

I went to Hunt Leather yesterday and had a look at a few bags. I was particularly taken by a really nice Barantani briefcase, and an Il Bisonte 'envelope brief'.

Unfortuantely, I don't really want to spend the $995 for the Barantani or the $795 for the Il Bisonte - does anyone know international stockists who sell these at non-Australian inflated retail prices?

I haven't had much luck asking my friend Google...

Melbourne gents, just got back from the Gant sample sale in Brunswick (little Miller St).

Lots of bargains and a lot of absolute crap. Of note, belts were $10, ties were $25 (a few wool knits, but mainly stuff I wouldn't imagine anybody here getting too excited about), pants $60, knits $70, plus jackets, blazers, over coats and shirts (didn't take much notice of them).

Anyhow picked up three belts (one black leather, one red ribbon and one navy canvas), a mid-blue shawl neck cardigan (lambs wool with three patch pockets), and a cricket knit jumper (white with burgundy neck trim, 50/50 wool/cotton).

As with most sample sales, the trick is to be able to filter out the crap (that strangely everybody else was attracted to) and hone in on the few gems.

Thanks for the heads up--I live in Parkville so I went to the gant sale too. Note that there are some other brands there as well (abelard and others) and tonnes of stock in general. It's a bit hard to find but just follow the people; when I was there at least it was quite busy.

I didn't buy anything. There was some reasonable stuff but I thought everything should have ideally been 10-20% cheaper again to be really tempting.

They had some nice blazers, tweed and suchlike, nothing in my size unfortunately but I would have been tempted at $195.

Worth a trip if you've nothing better to do...

I seriously have no idea who would pay the RRP they ask for some of the items. Take for example the shawl neck cardigan that I bought for $70, the RRP was $449(!)...

Gents I found a white as the driven snow size 18 Brioni shirt on my travels today.

Anyone want to take it off my hands and spare me the ebay/BS grief?

I love the fact that most people don't go for knit ties.

late reply, but did he mention the process (for want of a better word) for the price matching? I've decided that the Church's single monk's I bought after walking around all day in Paris are probably half a size too big, and one width too wide :( :( :( :(
stupid mistake to buy shoes after walking around all day, I can't believe I was that dumb.

time for a new suit or two. what do you gents suggest
last 3 suits in order of purchase were
    Navy SB
    Charcoal SB from Herringbone
    Light-Mid Grey SB

What next ? I am thinking another navy because the last one no longer fits that well.

And the reason is that they are uninformed masses: clueless as to how versatile knit ties can be, deep seated insecurity about their manhood, and their wives are usually with them when they shop.

They have no idea that a knit tie, in actual fact, pull chicks.

Navy - maybe try a PoW check or windowpane to give it a bit of texture.

I'm not sure about online retailers to be honest, but am speaking form experience from what I've seen in the EU. If I were you I'd use your need for a new briefcase as an excuse to take a holiday - Italy is especially nice this time of year....

Then again,if that's not an option if you type "Italian briefcase" into Google you're bound to turn up something you like for a much more reasonable price than can be had here.

I have a function with a dress code of: evening wear or black tie...

I imagine evening wear is for the ladies or am I mistaken? Does this mean a navy suit is passable or stick to tux?

Chances are, half the men there are going to turn up in a grey business suit.
