There were at least 10 size 50 Canalis and probably more in the other sizes too I would think.

Hmmm, I was there yesterday lunchtime and only counted 3 or 4 in a size 50. I must have been looking in the wrong place.

The 3 or 4 I saw weren't the most attractive looking Canali's either; the only resepctable one that suited me was a heavy charcoal effort in the front right room, but I may have missed a few others.

Still, $900 for a Canali. Beggars and all that.

There was a stand-alone rack of Canalis (the new drop six model) in the between the 52's and 54's in the back room last time I was there.

You want to go for another look tomorrow?

I noticed he's got a rack of new Cantarelli tailor in 60 .. maybe 62. This is really good stuff, the sort of Cantarelli from Bergdorf Goodman you see in B&S.

I know very little about jeans and even less about where to buy them in Melbourne, but your question made me think of a store in Braidwood which carries US import Shrink to fit Levi 501s.

It's a real store - though not very handy to most people, unless you live in Canberra - but they have a web store as well. Thus...http://www.freewebstore.org/HoolaHoo...20_585708.aspx

They also stock American Optical sunnies for quite resonable prices. It's primarily a ladies' store, specialising in 50s and 60s style gear - but they have some stuff for the fellas.

Thanks. Funnily enough I scored a pair of the AOs for my son off an SFer for USD40. Trouble with the bayonet frames is the slip off factor especially when sweating.

Are you in Sydney? if so try Castlereagh Street, still a few good estate jewellers between Park and Market who will also craft to individual specifications.

Many years ago I picked up a rose gold Cladagh ring for the missus there. Then had my mothers, her mum's and her favourite aunts wedding rings smelted and recast into two plain 18c gold bands for us.

Also an interesting article in todays SMH about the closures of Colorado http://www.smh.com.au/small-business...615-1g2z1.html

In a print article it listed the job losses in a variety of retail collapses, mostly due to bad management, but stated that only 5% of the population shop online and its only expected to reach 10% in the coming years.

There is an eBay seller called davefrommayfairgalleries who seems to get into a lot of great estate jewellery and watches. He seems to have a bit of an 'in' into some very nice vintage MittelEuropa jewellery.

I bought my wife a lovely big Art Deco aquamarine. Great ring and another few bucks for the resizing.

There's a further 20% off sale prices at HB outlet until Sunday. Just picked up a suit for $320 and a SC for $80. Billy Bargain!

If anyone is interested, I have apair of BNWT shrink to fit 501's in a 32 x 34 that I got in Hawaii last year (bought a few pairs). The 501 doesn't fit me that well, but like I said they are hanging around and i'd let them go for $40 plus postage is anyone is interested, just read up on how the sizing works first.

I'd give someone the 20% to hold a size 36 sale suit if I thought there would be any left.

Pop quiz: Need to buy a wedding band.

Preferences: Platinum, relatively simple, modern, no stupid tiffany markup but not from a chain store like Wallace Bishop or Michael Hill Jeweller either (that doesn't go with my SW&D steez!)

    Any recs?

You could try some of the places in Brisbane Arcade - there's a place upstairs near the Mall end of the arcade that makes custom jewellery. I bought a ring for my wife there some years back and it was not outrageously expensive.

Do you happen to be travelling to HK, China or Japan in the near future?
Platinum is much cheaper there than it is in Australia. Much, much cheaper - you'll probably save 50% and possibly more, particularly if you go to Japan at the moment.

That's not only because as, with most things, Australia is more expensive but also because platinum is much more popular in Japan, HK and China and so there is a greater supply, more competition between jewellers and a larger population.

Of course, it's not worth it to travel overseas just to purchase a wedding band but, if you do happen to be travelling over there anyway, places like Japan are great for platinum jewellery.

If you do get a platinum ring, try to get Pt900 or Pt950 (90% and 95% pure, respectively).

    Didn't know ganton was Aus.

Yes. They used to make shirts in Australia in the 1990s but then switched to manufacturing in places like Thailand and China in the early 2000s. Mind you, even when they were made in Oz they weren't great but you could at least understand paying $100 for them when they were made here - but why pay $100 or more for a cheap shirt with fused collar and cuffs that is made in China??

I understand that their "Ganton-by-design" customer shirt program still makes its shirts in Australia.
