Maybe I'm crazy, but I even enjoyed visiting Tropical Fruit World on the way back from Byron Bay.

Many years ago I went to Townsville to speak at a national conference. I took great care to dress down appropriately and for climate. I got myself from airport to venue - many hundreds arriving there - I was singled out at door from many::

" Hello fxh welcome to Townsville"

Me:: "How did you know who I was"?

"You're dressed like you're from Melbourne"

That's awesome, says about how you dress! haha :slayer:

How hard is it to get shirt sleeves shortened?

Spoken like someone who is of normal height!

I've never paid more than $35 to have sleeves shortened.

I pay ~$25 from my local lady, and she goes as far as pattern matching (where possible/appropriate), and sews into the existing seams on the collars, so you'd never know it was shortened.

Its a bit of a **** of a job, tbh. It's nothing like hemming pants.

really depends on if the tailor moves up the placket when he is doing the job, but it's a job that any tailor/seamstress should able to do. and yeah, it's harder than hemming pants.

Yeah they do move up the placket. I was struggling to find the word, cheers!

Being a short guy, when I go shirt shopping it's all about whether the shirt fits in the neck, and then shoulders, then sleeves. If the waist is huge, that's easy as to fix. Shortening sleeves makes that $50 shirt $75 at least. I should really get around to ordering from Luxire.

+1. Shirtsleeves should ideally be shortened from the cuff, rather than from the shoulder. Detach the cuff, unstitch the sleeve gauntlet, measure the new length, cut the **** for the gauntlet to the right length, sew the gauntlet back on, fold in the pleats and re-attach the cuff.

Closed a deal after one month of going back and forth, decided to stroll down to the Longines Boutique on Pitt Street, got myself a Longines Master Collection Retrograde Moon Phases, will wait for delivery from Melbourne this week, can't wait!

That's a swell timepiece. Longines some time ago repositioned themselves as a budget brand, which is a shame given their stellar history. Someone within that organisation is trying to lift the Longines game with some decent watches in the Master Collection. They are a brand in waiting. Enjoy your watch!

Picked up my Longines Master Collection Retrograde Moon Phases yesterday after work, and straight onto my wrist today, probably wear it to bed too.... :D

And a quick photo review on the watch appreciation thread.

There is a limit to how much you can shorten the sleeve by moving up the placket. If its too much, the placket will end up rubbing against the elbow when sitting and working. If you need them shortened quite a bit, a shorter placket offers more possibility.

That would be a great idea, you will also see a few memorable town names like Mooball, Myocum just to name a couple. Seriously it's a real scenic drive.

It's a lovely area for a driving holiday. There are plenty of small, coastal places like Lennox Head and even smaller places that are nice to stop in and if you then head up into the northern NSW hinterland, there are some really lovely small towns, some nice national parks, and some lovely scenery.
I used to travel there for work (appearing before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal on circuit) and I always looked forward to it - lots of lovely old sandstone country courthouses, small-town pubs, leisurely drives from town to town for the next hearing. Larger towns like Casino and Grafton are still small enough to be friendly and charming, and small towns like The Channon (very small indeed) and Bangalow have a really nice atmosphere. Lots of the towns around have fortnightly or monthly craft and food markets and have some really nice produce.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I even enjoyed visiting Tropical Fruit World on the way back from Byron Bay.

If you're feeling energetic, I'd recommend climbing Mt Warning, too. If you start climbing a bit after midnight (!), you'll get to the summit before sunrise and you will, as a result, be the first person in Australia to see the sun. It gets pretty cold on the summit at night, even in summer, so take a jacket with you.

Great advice from the Qld crew. Thanks again. NSW tourism should be paying you a commission!

JM and DB stole the rest of my thunder but a few more comments

As I've always had a car I kinda forgot about that. I strongly suggest getting a car to go there. I like stopping at tropical fruit world too. I'll give a shoutout to Brunswick while I'm here too.

Hi

I need advice please, I only joined this great community a few days ago. I have a professional photographer appointment that work had organised for professional pictures to be taken to be used on the company main website.

I would like to ask what shirt colour/pattern and tie combination I should be wearing.

Sadly I only have black suits, so have a pinstripe black suit that I will have to wear since I have nothing else yet. I didnt know navy is the work colour followed by charcoal.

anyway any help picking out a shirt colour and tie is appreciated.

Thanks
