I am a very generous gentleman. Or at least I try to be.

(I know what you meant and thanks for the review).

    Yessir, that's right.

Yessir, I do have a pair of penny loafers. I got them for a song at the Edward Green factory store in Northampton (Go bananas: http://bit.ly/WQF9im).

That city is worth a visit if you're in London - it's a nice, short(ish) drive from the city too. Here's a helpful link: http://www.northamptonshireleather.com/pdf/factory-shoe-shop-directory.pdf

Remember to take note of the opening hours for the different factories.

The Florence outlets are great for Car Shoe / Tod's driving shoes.

I personally quite like the shoes from Mannina in Florence. Ive got a pair of snuff suede brogues from there and my wife had two pairs of shoes made - nothing like knowing and meeting the guy that makes your shoes :)

From memory I think a jar of cream polish at Double Monk is $22. Really good price I think. If you are only buying small quantities it makes buying local make sense.

I agree with you - I wanted to know the basis for his statement.

Saphir suede cleaner sells for $25 at DM and $22 at Leffot and Hangar Project not including postage. How exactly is the local merchant ripping all of us off?

    $22 is correct.

Why pay that when even for a single jar the cost is $20 from overseas and more realistically people would be purchasing multiple jars to get all the colours they need and in that case the price comes down a little bit further from the online guys.

It's not about the $2, it's about the fact that I believe they don't need to charge that extra amount.

Showing your your ignorance again there UP...

Firstly your link isnt to the product he is after. Renovateur is a white cream not a coloured polish.

Secondly knowing the wholesale price of it, factoring in freight, gst, duty etc anyone selling it in Aus under $40 is doing everyone a public service, not ripping us off.

I know it might be heresy to say this on SF but I actually found Mannina to be a bit pushy... lovely shoes but he and his wife looked like they were about to put the evil eye on me when I told them that the pairs I liked were painful on my feet. Who knows, maybe he thought I was just a tyre kicker but the truth was out of the 3 or 4 styles I really liked, all of them felt like I was wearing a moustrap on my feet (and didn't feel like they would stretch much either). Of course that is no reflection on the quality of the shoes, but their reaction to my revalation that their shoes were uncomfortable for me was received with annoyance, which rather puzzled me (that's the kind of attitude I expect from an Australian shoe shop!)

I ended up finding a similar pair in another shop in Florence to the ones I liked in Mannina, also made in the local area, that were far more comfortable for me so I bought them instead. Coincidentally I'm actually wearing them today:
