1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check out the TM Lewin store later on today.

What are your guys thoughts on Julius Marlows? I have a couple of pairs of them (Ballistic in black and Premium in dark brown). What is a sensible next choice of shoe to purchase to wear with suits and formal wear?

And finally: I like the look of Bailey Nelson. I haven't bought sunglasses that aren't cheap trash in a long time. What is the basic run down of buying sunglasses? Are you looking to match them to outfits or stand out?

I am thinking about buying an IWC Portugeuese Chronograph, and post GST refund, it comes to $6500... what do you guys think? Good price? Should I save money in light of the coming economic downturn?! I feel bad spending money, but i love nice things.

As having recently sat a specialist optics exam, I can say with confidence that higher index only yields a thinner lens and that's about it. The dispersive power is higher and you will end up with more chromatic aberration. If you can, it's better to go with a stock lens and use other techniques to decrease the thickness of the lens rim (of which there are a few tricks).

Love the dial. Not so much what's in it (ETA Valjoux). For that price, I personally would go to JLC. But, to each his own.

Well, I didn't say you could get the chrono. But a master control can be had for 5k. Chrono is probably 7k upwards. Love the RDM but that's expensive as well...

True, but remember what the Bible says:

"...And if thy tie will not dimple, causing you to look inelegant, cut it off: it is better for you to start your day with no tie, than with an undimpled tie to go into the unquenchable fires of hell."

Hacko has a brand new portugese, sub and master control for sale today - the IWC obviously best value as outlined above

JLC in the master range id save up and get the moonphase i think its about $12k? (or am i dreaming?)

Id consider selling one of my JLCs for the right price too:) Ive got a Reverso grande ultra thin limited to 150 pieces, 1950's memovox in gold and master control c.60's with enamel dial

Thanks for all the replies and opinions.

I agree with what you've said here for the most part, there, Jason. For an odd jacket, you want a slightly wider herringbone. If you get trousers too, though, such a wider herringbone would look strange.

Thus I think a medium herringbone full suit would work, or a wider herringbone odd jacket.

With a full suit, I'd be inclined to get regular pockets on the jacket. An odd jacket might tempt me to get patch pockets. A grey herringbone, to me, though seems reasonably conservative so I wonder if it might look odd with patch pockets - Jason from memory your Herringbone jacket has regular pockets?

Here is the current season's jacket from Herringbone, which to my eye looks to be fairly close to the swatch I posted in colour and width:

Here is the Navy herringbone that is currently being made, Navy herringbone with 11mm repeat. A bit hard to tell from the grainy photo, but I think it's about right for a full suit. For an odd jacket I might've gone up to 17mm.

I need to learn those tricks.

I ordered a pair of glasses with an ultra high index but always felt uncomfortable due to what I now know is the chromatic aberration.

Awesome man, I'm looking forward to them.

Getting awfully frustrating trying to find that 'just right' shade of charcoal in a cut and style I like, OTR, that won't cost a fortune. I'm hoping you'll be able to alleviate this!
