With today's weather, I am looking forward to Melbourne drinks tonight. I'm aiming to be there somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00, but if anybody is planning on getting there earlier, PM me.

I was planning on attending drinks tonight, but have to go to hospital to see a family member all of a sudden (not serious I hope).

    Have fun, don't melt.

My understanding is that USPS, Royal Mail and any other international mail carrier who doesn't have their own local infrastructure/trucks (so everyone except DHL, FedEx, etc.) pass off their cargo to Australia Post once it's in Australia. So unless the online store uses an international courier (which is super expensive anyway, and usually means that the customer has requested fast shipping door-to-door), lockers can still be used.

The AusPost FAQ just said something along the lines of "the package must have been first checked into Australia Post's network", which is true of the vast majority of regular international parcels.

    At least, that's my understanding.

This would seem to make sense. It's the DHLs and Fedexs they won't support.

You are correct - but it's not common knowledge and requires an independent, extra inquiry on behalf of the consumer as to the carrier service used (often not listed on a webpage, especially eBay). More and more sites are now using courier services too (some that I order from are Luxire, J.Crew and Amazon/Endless). Also, not having the option to select expedited courier shipping to deliver to your parcel locker is a pain.

If it was a free service, I wouldn't complain, but this is something that they expect people to pay a recurring fee for in 2013.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I see AusPost's point of view, but it's not particularly user friendly.

But then again, it is AusPost we're talking about here...

For anyone in Sydney, my brother in law is opening a new Cafe and Viennoiserie concept on King St.

Just on the WAYWRN thread, I bailed on that ages ago when it morphed from being a source of advice to being a competition. The cliques that formed were also a turn-off. I never look there any more.

I'm not on Myface but my sweet tooth will lead me to drop in and sample the cornetti next time I'm up that end of town; hopefully it does well. Next to the Louis Vuitton store is it?
